This was our second stay at Dar Taliwint, so we came to Marrakech with calm confidence in the knowledge that comfort and tranquility awaited us, heralded by Dominique's warm welcome.
He had kindly arranged a chauffeur to pick us up at the airport and came to greet us himself in the little square where the taxis park and led us personally to "number 26". Leave the dust and bustle of the medina to enter into another world. A couple of steps down into the Dar Taliwint and out into the open square pillared courtyard. with its "zélige" and green and cream patio tiles, a small fountain with rose petals floating on the water, and, as it was winter and rather cool, tea, coffee and marrocan cakes taken in the comfy but elegant library/salon with heaters to keep us cosy! Fresh roses everywhere... Up the original stone staircase to our bedrooms, each with their own little "salon" outside with cushions and tables, then up again to admire the view and soak up the sun on the roof-top terrace. Marvellous!
The decoration is perfection. Morrocan in most of the features but woven with European design and contemporary touches due to Dominique's interest in modern and contemporary art. Each bedroom has its own atmosphere and colour scheme and every bathroom in burnished "tadalaque" ... so beautiful that my son said he wished he could sleep in the bathroom! Needless to add, he slept very comfortably in his bedroom which had superb high ceilings and more roses... and more cakes.
And this is the essence of staying here, you are made so welcome by Lénaique and Dominique and their smiling staff, that you really feel "at home" here. Breakfast is different each day, french toast, fresh croissants and pancakes made in heaven! And don't miss the fig jam... also made by the angels!
We highly recommend this little "gem of a hotel"... but only let your good friends into this well-kept-secret of a place... so there will be room for us when we return next year!
