We were all really pleased with the Riad - it had so many lovely features. The rooms were amazing - we stayed along with another couple and had booked mini suites. It was definitely good having the extra space - a seating area in the room. Our room was the only one on the ground floor in the half of the riad we stayed in - it opened out onto a courtyard which was really pleasant.
The pool, although small, was a great addition - apparently a bit more unusual in the centre of the medina and was definitely appreciated after a day exploring in the insane heat. The roof terrace again was lovely although it was usually a little too hot to sunbathe until about 6pm!
We ate in the riad the first evening we arrived and it was a delicious meal - very typical of the food Morocco has to offer. Our compliments to the chef! The breakfast again was typical of Morocco - might not be everyones taste - small doughy pancake, yoghurt etc but we quite enjoyed it.
The location of the riad was excellent - we were right in the medina. Although you wouldn't know that when you were in the riad as it was so peaceful. Apart from the cry of the meuzzin every morning it was so quiet. The little side streets you have to walk down to the riad are a little scary at night but you soon get used to it. We certainly felt relieved to be in a small group rather than alone or just two.
There are so many amazing sights in Marrakech - highlights are the Saadian Tombs, the souks.... We also visited Essaouria which was lovely. It would have been nice to have spent a few days there too, especially as it was about 2-3 hours away. Word of warning about the coach company to get there though - they ended up not having enough space on the return to Marrakech so put a minibus on for us and the other 6 people who ended up in the same position - but funnily enough this was more expensive than the return on the coach - felt a bit ripped off by that!
Certainly couldn't really fault the riad though - it was excellent. Would stay there again, it was perfectly placed to see the amazing sights of Marrakech. We found it really relaxing - even had a massage arranged by Hamid, which was lovely. Don't have a guide though - they only take you to the places in the souks that they get a cut, you can explore on your own, without feeling pressured to buy.
My recommendation would be to buy the Top Ten Marrakech Eyewitness Guidebook and stick to the restaurant recommendations in there - the ones we tried were really good - Fondouk, Cafe Arabe, Maison Arabe... Yum!
