Riad Lydines is a lovely Riad and the staff are lovely and caring. They looked after us well and a good time was had. However it was somewhat overshadowed by the poor quality that the Angsana brand brought to bear. Let me explain.
First off, booking it. You cant call the Riad direct. Only through the booking line. So I spent hours on the phone to someone, somewhere in the world trying to negotiate a deal that was supposed to be svailable online. They booked it wrong, twice, and I eventually spoke to another bookings office in Morocco who sorted it out.
Then, arriving. It costs about 20dhm to go from the airport to Kasbah where the Riad is located. Probably you will get ripped off by a local taxi driver like we did and pay 80dhm or so. The Riad wants 400dhm for the pleasure - 2000% markup! We were very late arriving due to flight problems but we had no idea if anyone was still up to greet us in the Riad. The bookings line were not able to call the Riad directly and so we arrived blind. At 4.30am, finding the Riad is near impossible. If you find yourself in that position, go to Bab Agnaou and then past the Kasbah Mosque on the Rue de Kasbah. Then first left and then first right. You will come out on the square. From the mosque, you will need to go by foot for about 5 minutes walk.
As I said earlier, the people running the Riad are lovely and attentive. We made good friends with them and they made us very welcome. I must say though that a five star residence this is not. Go to La Sultana if you want five star. This is good three star living and is priced at European prices accordingly. Angsana seriously overplay the quality of this place!
Going on from there, booking any excursions through them is madness. A taxi to Essouaira for the day costs 900dhm - for the whole taxi (4 seats). Angsana want 985 per person. And on it goes with the corporate rip off culture. At the end they charge 10% extra for service. I liked the staff so I tipped them each separately. The delighted look on their faces made me speculate whether they ever see the light of the 10% that I paid, but I don't know for sure.
As to some general pointers, this Riad is right in the middle of Kasbah. It is a lively and noisy area and this is mirrored inside. The doors have big gaps in them which means you hear everything from the kitchen and you will be up for breakfast by 9am! That said, the rooms are nicely air conditioned and very clean. No roaches to be seen!!!
The Riad was empty for us for much of the stay and in these recessionary times, Angsana need to think how to up their game and start thinking about customer service rather than the upsell.

Dear Jma24,
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We are delighted to hear that you had a good time in Marrakech and that you were well taken care of by our staff.
We are sorry to hear that you had difficulties in booking your stay through our central booking system but still glad that our reservation team on site managed to help you.
Regarding the transportation issues, I would like to bring to your kind attention that all our vehicles are new, safe, air conditioned and properly maintained which is not the case of most of the Taxis or even Tour organizers in Marrakech. Our tours are personalized and include a private tour guide. With us you will have the assurance of not sharing your car with strangers, like it happened in the past to some of our guests.
I would also like to point out that our fee to the airport is 200 dhs per way and not 400. Local taxis are asking between 80 to 200dhs depending on your negotiation skills but certainly not 20dhs. As a bonus our driver will escort you directly from the Airport to the riad’s entrance even if you arrive late.
We would like to thank you once again on behalf of our associates for the tips that you gracefully gave them, however Banyan Tree group was a pioneer instating a 10% service charge in all our hotels worldwide, and all the funds collected will entirely go back to our associates.
Sincerely,
Fabrice Collot
