“Great Location in Marrakesh”

We stayed at The Red House for 3 nights in January. The place is really lovely with a large and traditional bedroom. We stayed in room 303 with a huge balcony and large bathroom with walk in shower and also bath over shower in separate room. There was a large flat screen TV in room with only bbc world news as english channel as far as we could tell. There was a mini bar but no tea/coffee making facilities. We had a breakfast menu in room which had to be completed the night before with your menu choices, you also had to state what time you wanted breakfast and were given the choice of it being served in your room, the restaurant or by the pool which would be lovely in warmer weather. The bathroom had plenty of free shampoos, conditioners, bath gel etc and a very good hairdryer. Shower pressure not the best but perfectly adequate. We emailed hotel to pick us up from airport and to take us back and this was all arranged with no trouble. There was no charge for this although we did tip the driver.

Down the road was a cafe and bar called Extrablatt which served food all day. The cafe was downstairs with a buzzing atmosphere all day but the bar serving alcohol was tucked away upstairs and was empty each time we went there. The food was good enough and we did enjoy beer and cocktails although not cheap, about £8 gin and tonic £5 bottle of beer.

The hotel restaurant is well worth a treat as food and service are great, we enjoyed a 3 course meal and a bottle of wine for around £75. It was a shame that restaurant was so quiet at this time of year as only 4 other diners so not too much atmosphere but I am sure that in height of season you would need to book as the restaurant is well known and has great reviews.

Hotel is located 20 min easy walk to medina and souks and 20min walk to Guiliz which is more modern with more shops and restaurants.

We had great spa treatment at Le Bains Marrakesh and booked this on their website before we went.

Room Tip: No noise from any rooms but suites did not look bigger than normal rooms and our standard room had b...

We stayed at the Red house over New years. The junior suite we booked had a worn stained old shag carpet. Newspaper supposed to be available never delivered dispite requests a number of mornings. Large room decent bathroom and good location. Adequate breakfast. The manager suggested a hammam which we went to it was absoloutely gross dirty massage table used the same glove on god knows how many other people and expensive. The other couple that went with us from the hotel had to wait in the cold and never did get in to the hammam lucky for them. This hotel is way over priced. The common rooms and dining room are very pretty. The new years eve menu and party was quite nice

Room Tip: look elsewhere

“It's a facade”

Red House presents itself as a luxury hotel: a former private home renovated as a 'palace' into a hotel. But in reality it is a parody of luxury (I think the owners had the Ritz in Madrid tragically in mind) and looks like it was renovated in 1984 and never updated. For example the 'parquet' floor is plastic, as is the bathtub and fixtures. Everything is run down once you take a closer look, which is a shame because at first glance the exterior and public spaces are lovely and truly elegant. The food matches the rest of the experience: trying hard to live up to a luxury experience but failing desperately. However the staff is very nice and accommodating. Definitely not worth the money.

“First trip...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 November 2011

Our first trip to Marrakech - and therefore The Red House. Amazing holiday. Just loved Marrakesh.... no humidity/no bugs, fascinating experience in The Medina. Loved the restaurants. Staying at The Red House was just lovely. Big bedroom (although in need of some tlc) - balcony. We had an extra walk in shower but it didn't work. The shower over the bath didn't work too well either. The bedroom carpet was badly stained in a few areas. The balcony needed a bit of cleaning/painting. The food in the restaurant was to a high standard. Unsure how many people you could invite to hang 'round the pool with you. Seemed to be that one hotel guest could bring in up to 10 guests. Meant that instead of just the hotel residents by the pool, we seemed to have a few hotel guests inviting all their chums to hang out for the day. Not nice! Doesn't exactly make it 'exclusive'. Unsure why we were paying for a high standard of accommodation/hotel when basically you could stay in a flat 'round the corner and use the Red House pool every day!!!!
