“a striking disappointment”

Several luxury travel magazines led me to believe that a stay here would be well worth the high price. It wasn't. The isolated location offers no more peace and quiet than excellent high-end riads in the medina [the zan suite in the Riad Due hd been our spectacular base for most of the week]. The Ksar, beautifully designed, lacked atmosphere throughout and staff were aloof and unhelpful. The restaurant offered a predominantly European and uninteresting menu. We had cause very politely to complain about a number of minor irritations during our stay : a broken lamp on arrival, the hotel taxi which failed to collect us, rancid fruit juice served for breakfast. The reponse of management only exacerbated our sense of disappointment. The French manager (I speak as a lifelong Francophile) plainly could not have cared less. He seemed to believe that the establishmnent needed to do nothing to deserve our custom. I regret staying here. Although I have no need to economise, I felt that I had been robbed when I compared what was promised with what was delivered (sic). I advise travellers to Marrakech to avoid the soulless Palmeraie area and choose a boutique riad in the medina. You'll pay at most one third of what Ksar Char Bagh charges but you'll find calm, exquisite design, discreet but personal service and you will feel that your custom is welcome.

“beautiful faultless service, but the gardens could use some colour...”

My partner and I just had a wonderful 3 night stay. We were upgraded to a pool suite which was a very nice start to the trip. The most outstanding thing about KCB is its staff. Everyone was kind, helpful, and professional. For this alone you would go.

The architecture is beautiful, but I would have to agree that the interiors could be made a bit warmer and less austere. And no don't patronise me and say I should go to Benidorm for saying so like a reviewer a few back. The hotel rooms could benefit from just a bit more warmth of decoration. Not a big change, but a bit of softening. Also, the one reviewer is right about the gardens being dull. Where is the flowering bouganvilla, hybiscus and oleander bushes, or some flowering ground cover. The hotel is so beautiful that it is shame the gardens are so plain and dull- I am NOT suggesting some vulgar floral display, but to soften the landscape with flowering bushes.

Food is fabulous, staff wonderful. Spa treatments are top notch. The hotel is highly recommended, but be honest, couldn't it do with just a bit of softening inside and out.

“Very beautiful with lovely staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 February 2009

The hotel is gorgeous, the rooms are elegant without being over the top, warm and cosy and have great facilities. I had a plunge pool which was amazing and like the hottest bath in the evening! Its pretty pricey and maybe if you can afford to go there then this won't bother you, but I did think the food was very very expensive for what you got. Not that it wasn't delicious food, it was, its just that the portions were tiny and were pretty expensive.
The staff are lovely, Hicham the director is very suave and gregarious and all the other staff work really hard, nothing is a problem. The Hamamn is amazing and there are lots of things that are surprises to what you see on the website, I acutally think the website does them an injustice. Things like the pool room and various chill out areas and the fantastic shops and gardens... Its great, but you need to spend some serious cash!

““Superb, breathtaking, elegant, outstanding, superior, unrivaled"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2009

If you have not read the review of Ksar Char Bagh at mrandmrssmith.com then do, its completely accurate and written brilliantly.

As we were aware the property is set out of the medina, away from hustle and bustle of the Medina we decided to split our trip with two nights at the Ksar Char Bagh and then two nights at a Riad. After landing at Menara airport, we received a great welcome from Zac the driver, before jumping into one of their traditional London taxis which transfer guests around with a head turning experience!

Upon arrival at the imposing gated entrance, you are then faced with the most luscious gardens and the most calming of settings, we were then welcomed by the friendly and down to earth management team, Hicham (Director), Vanessa (Resident Manager) and Fabien (Food & Beverage guru). It’s easy to point out the names of the management, but real appreciation must be made to the excellent front and back of house staff. Now considering there are only a dozen or so apartments, there are apparently 60 staff working around the clock to ensure you receive the best hospitality. Not many hotels in the world can boast this ratio and you would not have a clue there are so many as they are all very discrete.

The property itself is just stunning, built with the highest attention to detail and tastefully furnished (most of which is made for Ksar Char Bagh only); it really is a unique place. As someone stated in a previous review, the gardens are amazing, one of which is completely unexpected when you consider the landscape beyond the boundary walls! It’s like your own private oasis.

Both Hicham and Fabien gave us a tour of the gardens on seperate occasions, and they are so passionate and confident in the quality of the produce grown onsite, they allowed us to taste as we went around, even picking salad items which were passed to the chef who then produced a great lunch for us. All meals we received were just beyond excellent, - the quality of the ingredients, the skill and creativity of the kitchen team ensure that you really do receive the very best culinary experience.

Being an ex hotelier myself and a stickler for detail, I can honestly say the hotel, actually it’s not a hotel, the owners have the best terminology, a “GUEST PALACE”, is truly is the best of the best, you are treated as an individual and the staff and management will do absolutely anything to ensure you stay is nothing less than superb.

Well done Ksar Char Bagh, well done.

Just one problem, make sure you book for more than two nights, .....you'll regret it when you leave!
