Just returned from a four-night stay at the Hotel Agdal and although it’s not luxurious, there’s nothing much to complain about! I travelled to Marrakesh with my friend and her mother and we stayed in a triple room, in the corner of the hotel, facing the pool with a pleasant balcony. The location of the hotel is good, there are lots of restaurants and banks around, as the Blvd Zerktouni is just off Avenue Mohammed V, which is the main thoroughfare down to locations like Djaama El Fna (the main square) and the Minaret. The room was spacious, with a double bed and two singles and a dressing table. Then there was a separate section with a large cupboard – with hanging space and shelf space. The bathroom was also good-sized with a shower over a bath, a toilet, sink and bidet. Despite other reviews on here, the shower was fine. My friend’s mother would have liked a bath but, as is common in Africa, no plugs are provided for the sink or bath. The décor of the rooms is quite plain, but as I say, it’s perfect for what you need. We particularly liked the lounge downstairs, which we didn’t even notice at first. It’s decorated quite lavishly, with lots of Moroccan tiles and light fittings. We had a few glasses of wine in here to start the evening and it was really nice.
Breakfast was good, with lovely Moroccan pancakes being cooked fresh, a selection of pastries, eggs, as well as coffee and tea. We had lunch outside in the pool area one day and ate pizza from the hotel bar and that was perfectly pleasant. But we didn’t swim in the pool, so I can’t comment on that! The staff were all pretty helpful, they were keen to offer us lots to do in Marrakesh, but we didn’t have much time to take them up on it. To note though, we were leaving for London at 5am on the Wednesday, and we were told by a female concierge that a taxi would be no problem. However, this wasn’t strictly true. Whether this was because of Eid el Adha, which happened to fall on this day, or because it was early in the morning. However, we flagged one down on the street and it was all fine in the end. And note - taxis should only cost 100DM to and from the airport! See my other reviews for things to do and honestly, don’t be disheartened by all the really negative reviews, Agdal is okay!
