“Really good value”

Just returned from a four-night stay at the Hotel Agdal and although it’s not luxurious, there’s nothing much to complain about! I travelled to Marrakesh with my friend and her mother and we stayed in a triple room, in the corner of the hotel, facing the pool with a pleasant balcony. The location of the hotel is good, there are lots of restaurants and banks around, as the Blvd Zerktouni is just off Avenue Mohammed V, which is the main thoroughfare down to locations like Djaama El Fna (the main square) and the Minaret. The room was spacious, with a double bed and two singles and a dressing table. Then there was a separate section with a large cupboard – with hanging space and shelf space. The bathroom was also good-sized with a shower over a bath, a toilet, sink and bidet. Despite other reviews on here, the shower was fine. My friend’s mother would have liked a bath but, as is common in Africa, no plugs are provided for the sink or bath. The décor of the rooms is quite plain, but as I say, it’s perfect for what you need. We particularly liked the lounge downstairs, which we didn’t even notice at first. It’s decorated quite lavishly, with lots of Moroccan tiles and light fittings. We had a few glasses of wine in here to start the evening and it was really nice.

Breakfast was good, with lovely Moroccan pancakes being cooked fresh, a selection of pastries, eggs, as well as coffee and tea. We had lunch outside in the pool area one day and ate pizza from the hotel bar and that was perfectly pleasant. But we didn’t swim in the pool, so I can’t comment on that! The staff were all pretty helpful, they were keen to offer us lots to do in Marrakesh, but we didn’t have much time to take them up on it. To note though, we were leaving for London at 5am on the Wednesday, and we were told by a female concierge that a taxi would be no problem. However, this wasn’t strictly true. Whether this was because of Eid el Adha, which happened to fall on this day, or because it was early in the morning. However, we flagged one down on the street and it was all fine in the end. And note - taxis should only cost 100DM to and from the airport! See my other reviews for things to do and honestly, don’t be disheartened by all the really negative reviews, Agdal is okay!

Hotel fine for the £££ as long as you get an inner facing room. Dont be put off by scaremongering on this site.

Breakfast great, fresh poranges, boiled eggs, FAB Morroccan panckes freshly made to order.

Friendly staff, atmospheric decor, ok a bit faded glory bur whaddya expect for the money.
And a great location, easy to get everywhere

“Awful”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2010

We were so excited about our holiday - and the photos on their website looked lovely. But I really wish I'd seen the other Trip Advisor reviews before booking and hope anyone reading this takes heed! The staff were scruffy, rude and unhelpful. The rooms small, dark, gloomy, unclean (i'll upload photos soon), the taps were hanging off the wall, there was 'something' all over the basin and toilet bowl. The bed covers were stained, burn marked and smelly! The satterlite TV was on static, the staff 'couldn't' sort it out...? The breakfast tasted nice, but the plates and cutlery were grubby. The pool area was overgrown, shaddy and uninviting. We also though there was an inside bar, but failed to find it. It's on a busy noisy road, and there was noise from the corridor all night long. We should of been there for four nights, but left after one. I also think that although the price tag looks good it's extremely overpriced for the standard and service you recieve.

“AVOID THIS AT ALL, EXPECIALLY THE DIRECTOR..SCARY MOVIE !!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2009

I agree with other customers of this hotel..may be you stay 1 night if you dont find alternatives, the swimming pool has sun for just 20 feets, the food nothing special..the rooms are large enough but nothing more. For the rest is very ugly. And they let you in trouble, like as happened to us, after they said us to park the car in front of the hotel, and so some guys started to ask us money to avoid damage to the car...The personnel and the director said us that it was our problem, then we want to go away and they asked us one more night to pay, they taken our passports...The story finished when we called the POLICE to have back our passports. We stand one more night and then leaved like a rocket !!

“friendly 3 star hotel with swimming pool”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2009

We stayed at this hotel after looking at about 8 others. The staff are friendly without being pushy, the rooms are basic but large, clean and comfortable, with a balcony. It is quiet, the buffet breakfast is quite good and having a swimming pool is a big plus. There is free (unsecured) internet in the lobby, which is more than almost all the other hotels in its price range (and higher) had. It takes ~30 minutes to walk to the medina, but this puts it in a quieter part of town; and the walk is interesting anyway. It also has a good supermarket very close by, and is only ~5 minutes walk from the train station.
