“Fantastic place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 March 2011

Really lovely, laidback hotel. Very relaxing stay. The staff were great, very attentive but didn't get in the way.

The Kasbah is about 30-40 mins outside Marrakech which I thought might be a pain, but it wasn't. We had the peace and tranquility of the countryside with amazing views of the Atlas mountains and, at the same time, could take the free shuttle into Marrakech in the morning for a hectic day around the souks. By far the best of both worlds.

The drive never got boring as there is so much to see on the way.

The food at the Kasbah was very good, with more than enough to go round and a varied menu meant that we never had the same dish twice.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone that wants a bit of peace, quiet and privacy, whilst at the same time has easy access to the hustle and bustle of Marrakech.

“Excellent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2011

We spent 5 nights in the Kasbah Caracalla during the Christmas Holiday 2011. The place is really fantastic for those who look for a peaceful place outside the busy Marrakesh area. Our two kids, 4 and 8 yrs, loved the place too. The staff is absolutely excellent, and open to any individual demand. Food is delicious, excellent cook, great dancer too. We had a great time with the kids. The apartments are wonderful, nicely decorated, beautiful view over the Atlas. We would definitely return.
The free shuttle to Marrakesh is a great detail.

“Nice place - could be better”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 November 2010

Kasbah Carracalla is nearly a fantastic hotel.

The rooms were wonderful, the views were breathtaking and the setting was idillic. We stayed on the second part of our holiday having stayed in the Medina for the first few days. We were looking for some peace and quiet as well as a conveinient location to visit the Atlas mountains, and it was perfect for this. If anything it was a bit too quiet - there were more staff than guests most of the time.

On th negative side, there were a few irritating things which could be improved such as hot water which runs out half way through a shower and the dining area was absolutely freezing with no heaters until the last night. Not the most pleasant dining experiences. Also, as has been mentioned, the food & drink was expensive by Morrocan standards, but not British. Having used a hammam in the Medina, then here, we found it disappointing - so make sure its free!

We would also warn people if they are thinking of taking an excursion to the Ourika Valley, our driver didn't speak a word of English and it was effectively a taxi to the mountains, which you could get for a lot cheaper... Another warning for if you do goto the mountains, there will be guides trying to sell tours to the waterfall - ensure you agree prices before you set off - they can turn nasty!

“A Lovely Kasbah”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2010

We arrived late (around 11.30pm) after a delayed flight, a long wait at customs, a slow rental desk for the car pick up, and then navigating the crazy Marrakech traffic. Once we found the turn off for the kasbah (which is difficult in the dark until you see the sign - lol) and travelled down the side road (unsealed) for a couple of miles, the sight that greeted us was simply amazing. A beautiful property, walled with lush gardens and imposing wodden gates. We were warmly welcomed in, shown to our rooms and had a fantastic meal made for us which was greatly appreciated. Cous cous, tagine and Casablanca beer. Not a bad way to round off the day. The hotel rooms have a wonderful traditional feel about them, low beds, cushions, mosaic bathroom tiles etc. The courtyard and pool are well maintained and very clean. The kasbah seemed quiet when we were there but I think that's just the whole surroundings and set up - very peaceful. The Atlas Mountains as a backdrop are impressive and sunbathing around the pool is certainly recommended. The food and certainly wine / beer was a little expensive but you know what, you just have to eat there at least one night to experience it because it is very very good. Overall, a fantastic location and lovely staff who can't do enough to help. Will certainly visit again. A perfect start to our Morrocan road trip! Thank you Kasbah Caracalla.

“Unique”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 September 2010

Clean large rooms
Comfortable beds
Clean en suite bathrooms
Beautiful hotel.
Great views of the Atlas Mountains
Pool was ok, never busy.
The staff speak little English, but friendly

No hot water, water much too cold – had to wash one limb at a time, even though it was 30+ deg c in summer.

When booked, description had indicated TV in the room, on arrival we found no TV.
No minibar in room.
No internet in the room.
No hairdryer.
Felt like a quiet monastry, very quiet and very few guests.
Breakfast ok, but same thing every day.
Evening meal was bland.
No food available after 11:00pm, made difficult as arrived at 12:00am and very hungry having missed supper. Staff obliged our request for something small on the first night.

This is not a western 4 star standard, more a 3 star, but if it is solitude and tranquility you seek, then you will find it here.
Kasbah Carcalla provides a unique privacy as it is more than 25 km from the city centre and located well off the main road. You are not likely to be disturbed as even the locals do not know where it is.
Location: Far out of town - 25km (though the road is fast and only a 35 minute drive) and to find the turn off you have to watch out for the sign on the left.
Most taxi drivers refused to drive out so far - 200 dirhams (after haggling) for a one-way taxi to the hotel.
The shuttle was not as flexible time-wise

Stay period: 7 days
I would not return to the hotel, but recommend for those who seek tranquility, peace and quiet.
