My sister, my friend, and I (all females) stayed at Dar Anabar's sister Riad, DAR ANEBAR SGHIRA, which is just across the alleyway from the main Dar Anabar, this November (2011). The rooms were nice and clean and very quaint with local decor. The cleanliness was above average, as well as the amenities, though comparably priced, for places we stayed in throughout our 2 week stay in Morocco. We also had a good meal that was above average for Fez, though it wasn't cheap but reasonably priced. The stay was a treat to say the least and we ended up making this our go-to base for travel around the northern region.
The staff from the general Manager, Ahmed, to Mustafa and Azziz (sp?) were all very nice and helpful. They went above and beyond expectations to help us run to the nearest medina gate to catch a taxi late in the evening because we were running behind and almost missed our (CTM) bus back to Marrakech.
Mustafa was everyone's favorite as he was very pleasant and congenial to interact with and seemed like a very modest hardworking family man. No agenda but to help guests and make everyone feel comfortable. Great at suggestions for local transportation and landmarks etc.
Overall an excellent experience. Thank you to everyone at Dar Anabar for making our stay so welcoming and pleasant!
If you drop into the riad you should also check out the old leather-bound guest book. It's amazing and has interesting comments and doodles from so many past guests.
Have fun in Morocco!
