“Great experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

I chose Dar El Hana based on the strength of its TripAdvisor reviews and was not disappointed. My family (group of 5) stayed in the Jacaranda and Acacia suites in early January and had a wonderful experience. The rooms are beautifully appointed and the bedding is exceptionally comfortable. The Dar's restoration is exceptional, creating a an environment of modern comfort and Moorish style. Josephine was very welcoming and informative in addition to being a delightful conversationalist. She was able to arrange for us a full day tour of Fes, which we highly recommend. We dined in one night and had an exceptional meal prepared by her cook, Fatima, surely the best meal we had in Morocco. There's also a great roof top terrace, although it was a bit cold to enjoy it. I'm hard pressed to identify how our experience could have been improved, although I might mention that the wi-fi signal is quite weak upstairs.

Room Tip: The stairs are very steep, so if this is a problem you might want to opt for the Hibiscus Suite on t...

I do appreciate your positive comments, it was indeed a pleasure to meet your families.
I agree the WiFi was being difficult at that time, and I since have a new Router which has resolved the issue completely.
Terrace is even colder right now in the evenings in February, but come late March the weather will be warmer....and even now, the sunny days make lunch on the terrace a treat.
WE will soon be back to serving Fatima's dinners on the terrace...balmy nights in Summer.
Wishing you wonderful holidays ahead, Josephine.

“Home Away From Home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

I have stayed at Dar El Hana a number of times over the last couple of years. I always look forward to returning there on my visits to Fes. I have stayed in two of the four rooms offered at the dar and each room has been very comfortable, clean, and inviting. The first time I stayed there was in the winter and the Hibiscus room was warm and welcoming. I wish I had of been able to take the bed and pillows with me to my next detsination. The bathroom is clean and water hot. I also appreciated the complimentary body wash, and shampoo. I was lucky to have a peek in Allaadin's and it is the perfect hideaway for those who would like a little extra privacy on their holiday.

The second time I vsited Dar El Hana was with my mother and father. We took the Jacaranda suite. This room is rented out as a double or triple. It was spacious enough to accomodate us all and once again the bedding and facilities are some of the best I have experienced in Morocco over the last 7 years.

Ben and Fatima do a wonderful job of serving a traditional moroccan breakfast with dinners on request, which I highly reccommend. Having lived in Morocco for some time moroccan food does not typically excite me, however, Fatima's cooking is an amazing experiece to say the least! The two of them work well as a team and ensure that your stay is as pleasant as possible. The terrace is a wonderful place to catch the sun's rays and read a book and relax.

The experience would not be complete without a moment with the owner/operator Josephine. She is a wealth of knowledge on Morocco and brings a warmth to the house withe her hands on approach. She makes sure that everyone feels welcome and that their time in Fes is as enjoyable as possible.

This is one place I will return to again and again and again!

“Excellent place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

My father and I went to Morroco for my first time and we agreed that we wanted to stay in the medina of Fez. We had found this B&B through the Rough Guide and it sounded charming and comfortable. We really had a wonderful time getting to know the other people and the owner of Dar el Hana. They had internet and were very prompt in responding to our requests to stay. Our room was very comfortable and spacious. Everything was decorated very tastefully and we enjoyed hearing how the owner had decided to move to Morroco. The whole experience of staying there was more than I could ask for and I was so pleased that it was in a quiet location but still in the heart of the old city.

Room Tip: There were several rooms but we had chosen the Hibiscus which was still a wonderful choice. The bat...

“Intimate and Authentic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

Welcomed by amazingly friendly owners and their superb staff. Jo has put great effort into ensuring that every nook and cranny of this treasure is authentic. You fall back into the depths of time. Positioned round the corner from the action of the medina, you experience food, rugs, pottery, wood carving, jewellery, materials, leather and eating places - all a walk, a smell and a touch away. If I had a particular need or request, I felt confident that all at Dar al Hana would conscientiously seek solutions to keep me safe, healthy and happy.

Room Tip: Express your need and subject to prior bookings you will be offered a room to please you. Each of t...

“Welcoming and comfortable”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2011

We found Dar El Hana to be an oasis of calm in the Fes medina. Our room, the Jacaranda Suite, was comfortable and large, with lovely bathroom attached. The decor is lovely, lots of mosaics and cedarwood furniture to add ambiance. The airconditioning was a great help, as Fes in winter gets cold! The wifi worked most of the time we were there, and when it didn't, we were able to use the network cable in the sitting room to access the internet.

We were the only people staying here as it was the quiet season, and it was like having the whole riad to ourselves.

The roof terrace was a lovely spot for breakfast or relaxing and catching some sun, watching cats jump from rooftop to rooftop.

Josephine was a fabulous hostess and it was like staying with an old friend as she helped us get our footing in Fes, such as finding the pharmacie and lovely places to eat. Ben was extremely helpful in pointing out landmarks and how to find our way back to the riad, and Fatima made delicious food and looked after us wonderfully.

I can't recommend this riad more. The location is easy to find (relatively - this is the Fes medina after all!), the premises comfortable and atmospheric, and the staff helpful and friendly. Thank you, Josephine!

Some have mentioned the noise in their reviews, and while there is occasional noise from the street downstairs, or the call to prayer, this really just adds atmosphere. If you are looking for absolute quiet, don't look in the Medina! :)

Room Tip: The Jacaranda Suite is the biggest room and overlooks the main rooms.
