My father and I have just returned from a birthday trip to Morocco and we had a really great time. One of the only glitches in our entire trip was our stay at the Riad Myra.

The place itself is beautiful, but when we were there we were only one of two other guests in the entire place. Not the hotels fault, but it did create a coldness to the place and because there were so few guests, the over compensation of the staff really annoyed me. Everytime we ate they would stand there and stare at us. I suppose they were trying to be helpful, but it was annoying.

This was not the main problem I had with this riad though.

My father and I had a reservation (made through Orbitz) for 5 nights. When we reserved with Orbitz we paid the $15 service fee and then understood that the amount for the reservation/nights would be paid once we checked out of the hotel itself.

When we arrived at this riad, we immediately told them that we wanted to only stay for 3 nights instead of the 5 and asked if this would be okay with them. They smiled and said "no problem". We even checked with them again later on and got the same answer.

Much to our surprise, when we went to check out three days later we were presented with the bill for the entire stay (not cheap!). When we reminded them that they said it was all right for us to shorten our stay they began to get irate with us and told us we had no other option but to pay because our reservation had been made through Orbitz and our contract was with them (or some other company - I could not understand what they said). Reading what the former person has said on this site, I now understand what "other service" they meant.

Regardless, I believe (and I told the hotel management) that I think it was bad customer service for them to not have mentioned this to us when we originally told them we would like to change the reservations. We asked them twice!

All they did was shrug their shoulders, tell us it was not in their hands, and grabbed our credit card from us. All those fake smiles were gone all of a sudden.

The hotel may have been nice looking, but I will never stay there again and do not suggest any one else stay there. Honestly, there are so many beautiful riads in Fez with much better reviews and I would try for one of them first.

Part of the reason to stay in a riad in the first place is for that homey bed and breakfast feel, but this place was so large and cold that we might as well have stayed in a regular hotel anyway.

By the way, there was a jazz festival in town during our stay and the town was buzzing with lots of tourists. Many hotels and riads were fully booked which was why we stayed at this one. I think I know now, why they were so empty and it possibly makes sense given their poor customer service.

Stay somewhere else - there are many options.

Could not cancel - terrible booking service

I have not stayed at the hotel. I booked it online, through the website and then immediately tried to cancel the reservation, as our travel plans had changed. I wrote five times and called once, with no reply or answer. Finally, after threatening legal action if the credit card were charged, they replied saying that I had to contact Globalres. When I googled it, I found that this is a reservation service for the hotels, not the customer. In other words, the hotels are the clients and there is no online booking center. I wrote to corporate - what else am I supposed to do? Anyway, I finally linked back through the hotel's website, pretending to make another reservation, and found a way to cancel. The hotel was terribly unresponsive and unhelpful. Perhaps it's beautiful, but I would never go after this kind of bad service.

This Riad is beyond beautiful. Every detail throughout is simply amazing, from top to bottom. It was more stunning than any of the museums or tourist sites that we visited throughout Morocco. That being said, you will have to pay for this privilege, as this place is not cheap. Despite the exquisite beauty, the riad did feel a bit sterile to us. Maybe it was because we were the only people staying there at the time. We had a major problem with the taxi driver that they sent to pick us up from the train station. A tout collaborated with the driver to trick us into thinking he was a representative of the hotel, and took us for an expensive and wasteful tour. Upon discovering this trickery, the hotel fully compensated us for the money we lost as a result of this. All in all, it was an excellent experience and I would recommend this riad if you are looking for opulence and are willing to splurge a bit.

Please, please can I go back soon !! After a boring hotel in Casablanca, we all just fell in love with Riad Myra and their staff. The gorgeous rooms, food and discreet attention to detail combined to make this an unforgettable stay in a wonderful city ( Fes) and country. Our first breakfast on the rooftop overlooking the old Medina, set the scene for our stay in this exciting place. We also experienced Hammam in the Riad's steamroom, we are all still laughing about the experience, none of us have ever felt so clean. We were scrubbed, polished and buffed to showroom condition !
This place is a must if you are going to Fes.

We stayed at this riad for 3 nights. Comparing all 8 places we stayed at during our trip to Morocco, Riad Myra was without a doubt THE best. The riad had some of the finest zellij, plasterwork, carved wood, brass work, etc. that we saw outside the tourist attractions. Everything was first class from the fine fessi embroidered table cloths to the intricately carved furniture in the rooms. This was simply a palace.

Besides the jaw-dropping interior, the food was superb. Both lunch and dinner were 3 courses. Note though that the breakfast is the same every morning (as was the case at the other riads except one). However, we did have dinner at the famous La Maison Bleue (just around the corner), and we thought that the food was just as good.

Most impressive of all was the personalized service. One afternoon we had come back to the riad hungry thinking that we could get lunch at the riad. When we had told them of this, they seemed to have a confused/worried look. It turned out that they did not normally serve lunch without advanced notice (as was the case at the other riads). Instead of turning us down, they spoke to the kitchen staff and apologetically said that they can only offer us chicken with couscous. Of course it was delicious. Another instance was where Noel (riad staff member) even came back for our last dinner just to be able to serve us. I believe it was her day-off (Friday) given that we didn't see her during the day. Finally, Brahim (riad staff member) kindly gave us a wake-up call at 3AM and served us breakfast at 3:30AM just so that we wouldn't leave hungry to catch our 6AM flight out of Fes.

Overall, the best experience I've had anywhere in the world.
