“Very good, with some minor deficiencies”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

We came to the Riad from an outstanding experience at a Riad in Marakesh, so we are comparing it to a very high standard. In general, we enjoyed our stay and would recommend it.

One thing to be aware of is that RMB is a building built in early 20th century in a Moroccan style, rather than a centuries old Riad.

The good points were that the administration and billing were excellent, the facilities were clean and the location on the edge of the Medina, with road access, was excellent. Rooms were very well presented and spacious.

A few minor negatives: The drains in the bathrooms smelled a bit, the doors to the rooms were somewhat insecure, the bed in our room was uncomfortable due to a sunken mattress, and some staff were obviously demotivated and bored, with low occupancy when we were there. The food in the resturant was very good, especially breakfast, but be prepared for European prices. The price list for day excursions was at a premium level and the laundry charges were such that we could buy new clothes in the Souq for less than the cost of washing!

A good Riad with some minor areas for improvement.

Dear Sir/Madam,
Thank you so much for your feedback, I wonder if you could help us a little more by telling me which room you stayed in? The reason being, I would like to check the condition of the mattress you report having problems with. I am a little confused as all the mattresses are on the firm side (as is customary in Morocco) and we have installed a softening layer on every mattress to make them more comfortable for our foreign clientele. I wish you had brought this to our attention during your stay as we would have changed your room immediately.
I would like to clarify a few points for other Tripadvisor users - the Riad was built in the 19th century and is an exceptional architectural example of a traditional riad with many original features. Also, breakfast is included in the price of your room. As for the price of the excursions, they are standard throughout all hotels and guesthouses in the medina. Our restaurant and laundry prices are also on a par with all other 5-star establishments, and when taken in context with the price of the rooms, should not have been a surprise. This is a high-end hotel and our prices reflect that.
Unfortunately it seems that the attitude of some of the staff did not reflect that, and I am sorry. It can be hard to keep staff on the top of their game during the low season, but we will try hard to work on this issue.
I am glad however, that you enjoyed your stay overall and I thank you for your compliments. All feedback is welcome as we are always striving to improve.
Safe travels,
Vanessa Bonnin

“Riad Maison Bleue in Nov 2011”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2011

In the heart of the Medina, well located from the center and parking. It is a beautiful Riad i.e. 'old' Marrakech home for a very authentic local flavor. The Zellij work, the windows, the architecture is out of this world. Could not have asked for a better place to stay to get a real feel of the life of an educated and wealthier Moroccan.

The in-house restaurant is excellent, as is the bar-lounge, the service is amazing, the staff is really friendly and very competent. Breakfast on the terrace and a drink after sunset is just fantastic, with views of the Medina wall and thousand year old ruins.

Walking up and down narrow stairways that connect the 3 buildings that make the Riad was fun, and the architecture and the interiors was the best we saw in Morocco. The owners know what they are doing, and are really talented !

The price was great, we got a 30% discount as it was Nov and off season. It was supposed to rain at thsi time, but luckily it did not. Cool and sunny.

“A Pleasant Stay in an Historical City”

Never having stayed in a "Riad," which, I'm told, are old Moroccan villas restored to accommodate guests. I stayed in two - one in Fez and one in Marakesh - during my trip to Morocco. The Riad Maison Bleue was certainly memorable! Thankfully, they had valets to do the heavy humping - the stairs are windy and narrow. But it was a huge surprise when I entered my room! I felt like I had been transported back 60 years in a Moroccan film. Grace and elegance probably sums up this room best - a large poster bed, rose petals on the floor and linen. And the bathroom was huge (more rose petals)! My colleague, who was traveling with her family, had a larger room but not as elegant. The courtyard is elegant as well. There is a waiting room off a a small, tiled swimming pool with citrus trees growing in the courtyard - very picturesque!

There is a maze of stairs and I got lost finding my way to the breakfast room. And when I got there the breakfast and service were forgettable. But all in all, a Riad that deserves a look.

Room Tip: They're all different! Ask to see more than one.

Dear Guest,
Thank you so much for your lovely comments and we are delighted that you enjoyed your stay. I would just like to say that we have listened to your comments regarding the breakfast and have since completely changed what is on offer.
As well as the fresh orange juice, selection of local breads and pastries (made in house), and homemade yoghurt, we now have homemade muesli/granola, platters of fresh meats and cheeses, fruit salad, pancakes, b'sarra (a local soup traditionally served a breakfast), and eggs or omelettes made to order.
I hope that should you return, you will now find the breakfast memorable.
Thank you for your feedback, it has helped us to improve and other guests have since benefited.
Kind regards,
Vanessa Bonnin

“Very Pleasant Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2011

We very recently stayed 3 nights at Riad Maison Bleue. It pretty much delivered as promised. A private, very comfortable and spacious room on the top floor, a nice terrace for dinner or breakfast and friendly staff. Being Morocco, the service isn't always super-slick but it is certainly very well-intentioned and delivered with a very nice smile. The riad is right on the edge of the Medina so is quite easy to get to from the "car-park" but is a fair walk from the main hub. Fes has a much more traditional feel than Marrakech, which we rather liked. RMB is not nearly as fancy as some of the larger Marrakech riads, but it is also a lot cheaper.
