I stayed at the Hotel de la Paix for two nights and thought that it represented very good value for money (43 pounds sterling for the entire stay, including taxes and continental breakfast). The Ville Nouvelle location is excellent and it takes only a few minutes to reach the more interesting parts of town (Fes el Bali and Fes el Djedid) by petit taxi. There is also an excellent and friendly cybercafe a few metres from the hotel on avenue Hassan II. I had a spacious room (with firm but comfortable double bed) with an equally spacious en-suite bathroom. The decor was fairly smart, there was a TV that worked and the furniture was in reasonably good condition. My room was at the back, so my sleep was undisturbed by noise from the street (rooms at the front will, I'm sure, be noisier). On my first night, I dined in the hotel restaurant: the food was good though the restaurant itself lacked character and warmth. My only quibble was the lack of heating in the room - I was told that the system had broken down. Also, the hot water supply was erratic -piping hot one day and lukewarm the next. The air conditioner (not that I needed it!) did seem to work, however. All in all, I would recommend the hotel for a short stay.
