“Something needs to be done about the standard”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 March 2011

It is very easy to check in to Hotel Batha which would be the only reason I would recommend it to a friend. Easy to arrive by car or get a petit taxi from the new town. The location close to the medina is great.

The hotel in it self has however seen its glory days and if something is not done about the room standard I am sure they will not be able to increase rates much before the convenience is no longer worth it. The breakfast was equally beige. Mainly, why save in on the orange juice when you have the best oranges in the world on your doorstep to the price of nothing and instead offer guests a synthetic and watery substitute from a pack?

We also had a crack at trying out the overgrown pool but this can not be recommended. Do not believe any staff has visited the pool area in the last year or so!

“Pretty hotel, needs some fixing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2011

This hotel is pretty aesthetically with the usual Moroccan architecture and decorations.

It's in the heart of Fes, so location was perfect. It however needs fixing up. The door handles were difficult to deal with, probably due to old age, and it's difficult to open up the doors. You need a lot of slamming and yanking to get in and out.

Next, as with the other review below, the toilets are ridiculous. The have steps to go up to the bathroom and it wasn't safe when the bathroom gets wet nor when it's dark and you can't see the steps. WC doesn't flush very well either, perhaps the aging plumbing system.

I give credit to the hotel with keeping us warm at night when it gets cold. The service is OK, you get attended to.

Average hotel, but the location is good.

“Not as good as it used to be”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 December 2010

This was the forth time I have stayed at the Batha as I always found it to be a good hotel in a good location. This time I was a little disappointed. The bathroom was falling apart with cracks around the tiles and very grubby with limescale and mould.
The room was facing the main road and the noise all night was unvearable, cars beeping horns, scooters racing around, garbage collection, kids shouting etc

The bar has lost all it's atmosphere, it used to be lit with lovely lamps and had a log fire. This time just ceiling lights and no fire - and no customers! The beer is too expensive now.

Fez itself has changed. This time I was abused by children, sworn at, hit and pushed and my hair pulled!

I left covered in bites - goodness knows from what!

A shame this once lovely hotel is losing all it's charm

“Fix the rooms”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 November 2010

This hotel was chosen by our trip organiser on an 8 day trip to Morocco. The public areas were pleasant enough, but the rooms were ridiculous, the bathroom being two steps up from the main level. At least one of our group missed the steps in the middle of the night when he had to get up, and he was not a drinker!!
Running out of marmalade at breakfast can happen in the best of hotels, but taking 10 minutes to replace it should not be the case.

“Location was everything”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 November 2010

You can't beat this place for its location, right near the medina. The beds were pretty comfortable by Moroccan standards and the air conditioning was good and I was actually grateful for the white noise it created to block out some of the noise coming off the street. The hot water was intermittent but I now see why after reading other reviews. The toilet was smelly but this too is pretty standard in Morocco.
