review for young party people.

I was in rabat where I have friends but for my last night before going back home I wanted to go out in casablanca.. a taxidriver took me to this hotel. I found better quality and friendlier people in rabat ville for less money. (780 dirham )
I'm a young guy who likes to go out and doesn't need much sleep. this hotel is very big and it has many different rooms.. in the evening you can enjoy chicha and alchohol in any of the rooms.. in the places where there is singing, the singers come and sing infront of you and waving money.. some people next to me gave money.. 20 DHM, but the singer didn't find it enough.. I gave 100 dirham and that was fine for her, a coca cola was 100 dirham, (and that was not even in the night club as I was leaving there was one big guy telling me to give him a tip as he was the bouncer he said.. I gave 50 dirham.then the singer came to me and asked me to give some money to her "sister"...so far I had spent 250 dirham for stitting in a small smokey room, louzy music drinking one coca cola.
I went to the cabaret where there were girls.. only old/big/fat girls.. drinks 100 dirham.. they begged me to buy sigarets for them.. I had to do my best to get my change back from the waiter ( he tried to keep it of course ).
The staff is asking for tips for just about everything ! you will lose a lot of money there and get nothing in return !
as I wanted to leave to see some real nightlife, the bouncers and actually ALL staff in the place tried to convince me to stay there ( of course to spend more money ) but please.. if you want to have fun and go out.. take a cab to the beach side.. check out the clubs there.. free entrance.. young people, cute girls.. whatever you want ! I did it and I loved it !
take my advice, if you are family people.. you are in the wrong neighbourhood and for sure the wrong hotel, if you are party people, go somewhere else and don't even think about entering the nightclub or bar etc.... !

I would not recommend anyone to stay there..

“Outrageously rude staff”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2010

The manager quoted me a fair rate on the phone and then nearly doubled it upon our arrival. He then spoke to me like I was a child when I corrected him. After a tense conversation, he insisted on a cash payment upon our checking in and then directed passive-aggressive threats toward me and my spouse. Had it not been so late at night, we would have stayed elsewhere. I hope readers don't make the same mistake we did.

“faded grandeur - i liked it, but i can see that others might prefer the local marriott”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 November 2010

for a one night stay in casablanca this was great for us. the hotel is a fine piece of art deco which is crying out for some TLC. lots of restaurants within 5-10mins walk. walkable to the medina. hassan II mosque and the train station (casa voyageurs) is a short taxi ride.

Room (on 3rd floor) had character, a bit of road noise, no restaurant/bar noise. bathroom was clean, but ready for a redecoration. shower worked but the shower head hadnt been descaled for quite a while.

front desk staff were ok rather than engaging.

breakfast was very mediocre (is someone siphoning off the interesting bits?) and didnt live up to the setting. we had better food in a nearby cafe (out the front of the hotel, turn left, 2mins walk on corner on the right)

so - if you want a plush modern room, lots of "have a nice day", and a great breakfast - look elsewhere. if you want the chance to stay for a night or two in a piece of casablanca's history - give it some consideration.

“I can't say it's the worst hotel in Casa, but it's in the running.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2010

This hotel is perfect for the traveler who doesn't want to leave their room to go to a night club! Beginning at 11:00 p.m. and lasting until nearly 4 in the morning hotel guests are treated to the heart pounding rhythms and micro-tonal warbling of the loudest music Morocco has to offer! Wow what an experience! If like me you tire of this at about 2:00 a.m/ the staff will gladly lie and tell the music is "finished"! Then when you ask for another room you may be shown a room that is above (instead of next door to) the club. Oh to be so lucky!

At least the folks in the room next door found a way to pass the time. Their headboard was banging against the wall for a good 30 minutes or so during the "concert".

Oh, and if you book on hotels.com and pay in full in advance, you will still be charged another $40 upon your arrival. "Fees" they will tell you.

Soooo if you want to be ripped off by rude, incompetent staff and not get even an hour of sleep before your flight home. The hotel Transatlantique is the place for you!

“Overpriced, sad reflection of its former glory. Look from outside, stay somewhere else.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 October 2010

Hotel Transatlantique is a very sad reflection of it's former magnificent glory. It was built in 1922, and I imagine it was fantastic then. You can still see the traces of the original art deco design in the lobby and the restaurant area, and the outside seating has beautiful traditional ceiling carvings.

Sadly, that's all there is to it. I doubt it has ever been remodeled or updated or vacuumed since 1922.
I stayed in room 215 (2nd floor, above the nightclub, noisy). Here are the highlights:
- half the lights in the room didn't work - switches did nothing
- drapes were extremely dusty and had not been cleaned in decades. My wife is sensitive to dust, so she immediately had an allergic reaction. Same for dusty bed covers and blankets
- none of the "decorations" in the room - coffee table, etc, were cleaned. very dusty
- there was an undeniable stank of "oldness" in the room. or maybe dampness. or tears of previous travelers who realized they wasted their money
- general lousy upkeep: the cabinet for the mini-fridge wouldn't close, everything is crooked - mirrors, lamps, bathroom door didn't really close well, etc
- bathroom was rather dirty - possibly traces someone's blood caked on the side of the sink
- towels were ancient and sad looking. i think i had better towels in college as a grad student
- breakfast: arguably, worst breakfast ever. Much-cheaper riads in Morocco had significantly better and more interesting breakfast. Crusty bread rolls and jam works in England (sorry England) but not anywhere else.... Other guests were very confused looking at the breakfast buffet, trying to find the "food" part of it...

Overall., Transatlantique is a phenomenally poor value for the $105 they charge for the double (900 dirham in Oct 2010). It's still rated 4 stars, but they must've kept it from 1922 and never had a re-grade.
The saddest part was that the staff and the bellhop acted like they were doing you a favor letting you stay in the hotel....

You are much better off staying at Hotel Amoud (http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g293732-d1813029-Reviews-Hotel_Amoud-Casablanca.html) 1 block away for half the price; and coming to Transatlantique as part of the walking tour. If i had stayed for more than 1 night, i would absolutely switch hotels.
