We checked out the hotels carefully prior to travelling, as we had heard alot of bad things about noise levels in Casablanca and as it was the last two day of our holiday we were really keen to have a good couple of peaceful nights sleep, drinks in the bar and easy access exploring. Anyone who has been studying Casablanca on TripAdvisor will know that these things are apparently hard to come by. So, athough above our budget we bit the bullet with this place as the reviews were half decent and were really positive about it.
What a farce. We arrived to be told that despite we had PREPAID for our hotel room, apparently, 6 guests at the hotel had had their flights out of Casblance delayed, and as such, our room was "no longer available". When we politely objected and said that that in that case, these people should be relocated, as the room was not booked in their name for that night, I kid you not, the guy on reception laughed, smirked and ignored us. When we persisted - and a lady from the United Nations was being told similar stories - they claimed that regrettably the King himself needed the rooms! Pinocchio anyone?
We were told we had been booked into an "equivalent" hotel round the corner. We complained immediately, as we had heard really bad things about the Prince Paris Hotel on TripAdvisor and others (AND BELIEVE ME THEY ARE NOT EXAGGERATED), but were told that unless we wanted to go to a hotel "at least 15 minutes drive to the action, and taxis are hard to find in Casablanca" that was our option. They basically bullied us into submission - at 8pm with a flat refusal of a refund - what could be do?
They did offer us (and did give) an "upgrade" the next night (when we were so exhausted from a sleepless in the truly terrible Prince (any claims it is 4* are not to be believed) - however, as we pointed out, an upgraded room on our last day in Morrocco with an early start (7 am ish) was worthless to us.
The next day, my friend politely suggested that it was not the kind of hotel the Ramda should really want to be saying it was "equivalent" to - the manager bluntly told us that the other 4 guests said it was "just like the Ramada" and dismissed us. Well I am sorry, we spoke to the lady from the United Nations, who told us her shower did not work and neither did her hair dryer - and she didn't get any sleep. Great when you are giving a United Nations conference....
This is clearly, having looked at the Prince reviews, something which happens alot (a good thing if unlike us, you paid for the Prince and not the Ramada). |Therefore, I recommend you pay the extra to stay in the Hyatt or similar and get a guaranteed room, its pointless being in Casablanca if you are too tired to enjoy it - and have paid way over the odds to be turfed out. And turfed out you may well be - we saw the same thing happen to others the night after....
The shame of it is, the hotel itself IS quiet (as we so desperately wanted) and is a great place to stay, just a shame they clearly take a quick buck from people whose flights have overrun and move other guests to dire hotels.
