“Wouldn't recommend!!!”

My boyfriend and I booked the Kenzi Europa for the last 3 nights of our week in Morocco - coming from a crazy Marrakesh (though from a stunning Riad) we sought relaxation, peace and nice surroundings - this was not it!
Upon arrival, the reception staff were frosty, no eye contact, pure rudeness and monosyllabic answers to any questions asked. "Passport" was muttered to us, and a few seconds passed before we realised he was indeed, asking us to see them!

A porter brought us to our room, through baltic hallways, painted with dated murals of trees and birds. The room was large, badly furnished with old, chipped wooden furniture. More dated paintings on the wardrobe doors and there was an old shelving unit shoved inside the wardrobe.

The porter of course, shuffled his feet for a tip, which is Moroccan custom, but felt awkward nonetheless. We had barely gotten through our room door, when the phone rang. Reception calling us to tell us of a "city tax" that we had to pay, almost €3 a day each. A bit rude seeing as we were at the reception desk with this frosty receptionist for in excess of ten minutes and he failed to tell us of this charge at the time.

No tea and coffee making facilities in the room, and a cold sheltered balcony with old plastic furniture overlooked the pool area with awful, awful synthesized music playing from 10am for the entire day. It would make you cringe!

We took a small walk around the pool area later that day, and were shown the gym and sauna facilities which were well equipped, but clearly no-one was using them!

We were starving upon waking on our first morning here. The breakfast was bland and messy looking in display. Watered down sweetened disgusting juices came out of a machine, concentrated. Coffee machine with coffees that didn't taste like coffee. Bland meats, breads which we had to fight for, tasteless pastries and extremely unhelpful staff made our culinary experience bad! We chose to have breakfast out for the next three mornings, for 30DH (€3) we got a fabulous coffee of choice, a freshly squeezed orange juice, a pastry and toast.

All in all, we didn't like this place, the pillows were flatter than pancakes, insufficient air conditioning with dials that dropped off if you looked at them. We were cold in the night, doubling up our one blanket over us to stop shivering and waking to brutal 80s keyboard music each morning - don't do it to yourself!

Room Tip: pick a different hotel!

“Please Find An Alternative Hotel!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

This is my very first hotel review and I would implore any person considering staying at the Kenzi Europa Hotel to think again. Having studied the internet seeking a 'five star hotel' situated in Agadir close to the beach, the Zenzi Europa appeared to tick all the boxes. My wife and I proceeded to book the hotel for our Christmas and New Year holiday ....... to our great regret ........ having paid for our eight day stay, we moved out after TWO DAYS as the conditions were so inferior. We are both seasoned travellers and know what facilities to expect in a 4 to 5 star hotel. The hotel is completely 'utility' and lacked any reasonable standards. The hotel interior, although spotlessly clean, is absolutely jaded. The gardens are pleasant but the pool area is small and the water was ice cold. The sun bed area is situated between two high rise accommodation blocks which act as a wind tunnel making sunbathing virtually impossible. Moving on the the food ...... we have had better at road side cafes. In all fairness, the variety of food, although cooked well, was completely limited with absolutely no variation from one meal to the next. The word 'bland' would be an overstatement!! There was no waiter service in the restaurant - all meals being 'self service' and one had trouble trying to select any decent 'European' food.
Having mentioned at the outset, we stormed out of this hotel after two days and moved down the road to the fantastic 'Agadir Beach Club Hotel' - which is a true Four Star Hotel ... with wonderful facilities ... absolutely fantastic food ... and consumate luxury ... ALL FOR A CHEAPER PRICE THAN WE PAID THE KENZI EUROPA.
For any prospective traveller intending to visit Agadir ... please accept that any glowing reports about the Kenzi Europa Hotel most probably were submitted by the hotel staff. The hotel should be sued for fraudulent advertising as no way in the world could it be classified as a five star resort. Being generous, the star rating should be no more than two!
Be warned ... our holiday was almost ruined ... but we were fortunate to have found the Beach Club in time.

Room Tip: High Floor, corner rooms are better ....but be prepared for very dated furniture and facilities.

“Average hotel - You get what you pay for!”

My husband and i have just returned from a trip to Agadir, staying at the Kenzi Europa Hotel (16th-23rd Jan 2012). Despite previously reading alot of mixed reviews on Trip Advisor, we still went ahead and booked it as it was a reasonable price and the location of the beach to the hotel won us over! First impressions of the hotel was that it was spacious, clean and we were met by the door by a more than eager staff member who helped us with our suitcase. A word of warning, it is Moroccan custom to provide a tip after any and every service provided, so make sure you have alot of spare change on you! The checking in process was fairly straight forward, eventhough we were asked to pay an additional fee (£31 pounds) as a tax surcharge by the hotel. This price was never mentioned to us beforehand nor where we given any more information on why we had to pay it!! Our room had a double bed (two single beds pushed together), with a balcony overlooking the garden area. We only had a Bed and Breakfast package with the hotel, and after seeing the food provided, we were glad! Breakfast was the same tasteless, poor quality buffet styled food every morning. Luckily, the location to the beach was the best part of the hotel. It's literally a 5 minute walk away, with a variety of restaurants on the promenade strip. Local's only speak either French or Arabic. Throughout our stay, not once did we see any entertainment provided by the hotel. Eventhough it advertised various shows in the main reception area each night at 9.30pm, it never happened! The hotel also advertised an 'Excursions Service', however nobody was ever manning the designated desk for outdoor activities - which made us look elsewhere. A word of advice to anyone looking to travel to Agadir, there was an amazing Excursions company, just outside (to the left) of the Kenzi Europa Hotel called 'Erlebnis Tours'. We went quad biking in the sandy desert, Horse riding and Camal riding with them during our stay, and they never disappointed. Picking us up and dropping us off outside of our hotel, and providing a wide range of activities for a reasonable price! Just ask for either Ahmed or Abdi Aziz when you arrive at their office - (www.erlebnis-tours-maroc.com). Without writing too much, overall my husband and i had a relaxing and enjoyable trip. As a couple in our early twenties, we found the hotel slightly dated, however clean, spacious and excellently located. The price we paid for the hotel was reasonable, therefore the standard we were expecting was reasonable - and thats exactly what we got!! The reception staff at the front desk were not the friendliest, but i suppose i'm used to the British culture were staff tend to crack a smile more often!! If your looking for a cheap, quick getaway and a bit of winter sun - then book this hotel. But if your looking for something a bit more high class - look somewhere else! Hope this helps!! x

“Average getaway”

Kenzi Europa was just an average hotel. My husband and I were in our mid twenties when we visited. We should have either had a family, or been in our golden years. The rooms were ok, nice spacious bathroom. The staff was average and the nightly entertainment was good for the nights it was raining. I liked the location. Right across from the beach, close to the Kasbah, and on the same street as some great restaurants and bars. If we go back, we will stay somewhere else.

“A former favourite - but this time, a non-smoker's nightmare”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

It is a shame to feel so half-hearted about a hotel that is great value and a reasonable choice. But whereas our last stay was in a warmer season when the smoking around the hotel was relieved by open doors and windows, in mid January most of the guests were resolutely indoors and lighting up. Everywhere - including the restaurant (albeit not right by the buffet) and even the lift.

Otherwise the hotel continues to please, even from within its time-warp. The restaurant service was fine, although at times the food was cold and sometimes involving a wait for dishes to be refreshed. They did a candelit dinner one evening which was a delight.

Still undeniably good value, but when you feel unable to use the common spaces without returning to your room smelling like an ash tray, it's not worth the trouble.

Room Tip: high up gets you interesting views and some amazing skies
