My boyfriend and I booked the Kenzi Europa for the last 3 nights of our week in Morocco - coming from a crazy Marrakesh (though from a stunning Riad) we sought relaxation, peace and nice surroundings - this was not it!
Upon arrival, the reception staff were frosty, no eye contact, pure rudeness and monosyllabic answers to any questions asked. "Passport" was muttered to us, and a few seconds passed before we realised he was indeed, asking us to see them!
A porter brought us to our room, through baltic hallways, painted with dated murals of trees and birds. The room was large, badly furnished with old, chipped wooden furniture. More dated paintings on the wardrobe doors and there was an old shelving unit shoved inside the wardrobe.
The porter of course, shuffled his feet for a tip, which is Moroccan custom, but felt awkward nonetheless. We had barely gotten through our room door, when the phone rang. Reception calling us to tell us of a "city tax" that we had to pay, almost €3 a day each. A bit rude seeing as we were at the reception desk with this frosty receptionist for in excess of ten minutes and he failed to tell us of this charge at the time.
No tea and coffee making facilities in the room, and a cold sheltered balcony with old plastic furniture overlooked the pool area with awful, awful synthesized music playing from 10am for the entire day. It would make you cringe!
We took a small walk around the pool area later that day, and were shown the gym and sauna facilities which were well equipped, but clearly no-one was using them!
We were starving upon waking on our first morning here. The breakfast was bland and messy looking in display. Watered down sweetened disgusting juices came out of a machine, concentrated. Coffee machine with coffees that didn't taste like coffee. Bland meats, breads which we had to fight for, tasteless pastries and extremely unhelpful staff made our culinary experience bad! We chose to have breakfast out for the next three mornings, for 30DH (€3) we got a fabulous coffee of choice, a freshly squeezed orange juice, a pastry and toast.
All in all, we didn't like this place, the pillows were flatter than pancakes, insufficient air conditioning with dials that dropped off if you looked at them. We were cold in the night, doubling up our one blanket over us to stop shivering and waking to brutal 80s keyboard music each morning - don't do it to yourself!
