“Perfect for me!”

This is where my family went for every vacation. My dad didn't like paying a lot of money for no reason, so we never went to Disney. As a kid I loved this spot and as an adult living on the other side of the country I will take my kids here. The hotel is clean and offers great food, drinks, entertainment and a wonderful pool. The amusement park has everything you need, with the best parts being the price, lack of lines, easy access to the hotel with free trolly service, and a very safe and family friendly environment. The only negative is it is sort of in the middle of nowhere, so you won't find great shopping or big city life. But I think that's really what keeps it the way it is. I love this hidden treasure. I hope they never go out of bus

“Nice, but not worth the $, and not as advertised”

I meant to write this review a while ago - we stayed at the Adventureland Inn on September 18, 2011 (a Sunday night). We had a room that walked right out to the pool. The room was nice, the pool was nice, and we had fun. However, a word of warning - if you aren't staying here at a busy time (I presume only weekend nights), then what you see and what is advertised is not really what you get. Part of the reason we wanted a room right on the pool was the cool swim-up bar, but because this was a Sunday night, it was completely shut down and closed. We were told, after we checked in, that this was because they weren't busy enough. This was never mentioned to me when booking, and at check-out I asked for a discount. My feeling is that you pay a price for the amenities that are advertised and if those aren't available, the price should be less. The staff refused to offer any discount, which was disappointing. All said, our stay was OK, but I won't be returning - it is far to expensive to just guess which amenities will be open when you get there.

“Retro family fun”

We stayed in the Adventureland Inn for three nights in order to attend a state convention. I brought along my kids (13 and 2) and everyone had an excellent time. The rooms were spacious and well-cleaned. We had an upstairs poolside suite with a balcony overlooking the pool area. This included a bedroom with two double beds, a bathroom, a vanity area, a sitting room with couch, table, television, microwave and refrigerator, as well as a balcony with table and chairs. Really, we could have lived here indefinitely there was so much space. It could be a bit loud at night from the echoes of other guests in the pool area, but the bedroom in our suite was on the far side and it did not keep us awake. We had the opportunity to converse with our housekeeper a couple of times and she was quite nice.

The hotel was very well secured. A key card was needed for any entrance except the lobby, which made me feel comfortable allowing my teenager to head down to the game room alone. Even though the theme park was closed for the season, the kids absolutely loved the swimming facilities in the hotel. We primarily used the area with the little kid pool. It was covered and fairly warm for the end of October. We did have to remember to wear our wristbands -- even with no other people using the pool, they stuck close to their rules. The kids loved the poolside bar with snacks and the water features (slide, dumping bucket, rain umbrella, bubble jets) in both pools. I could see this being a crowded spot during the high season, but in late October, we had the place to ourselves.

The events held at the empty park were within a two-minute drive; however, the hotel provided a free trolley to and from the event. The drivers were friendly and helpful. I asked one how late the shuttles were running and he smiled and said, "Until everyone's home."

I attended events at most of the conference and common rooms on the property. Everything was clean and well-maintained. The outside had an historic look, but we'll just call that "classic retro." Everything was in great shape. The only little downside was that the catered hotel lunch at one of the events we attended was fairly bland and half-hearted. The chicken breast on the sandwich tasted rubbery and not seasoned. It would have been nicer, and possibly less expensive, to have simple deli-sliced chicken instead.

The kids have already asked to drive back to Iowa to return to the Adventureland Inn. I think we may have to plan another trip when the park is open!

Room Tip: Poolside is convenient, but may be loud.

“Keep your pool and your rules.”

We recently stayed in a suite at the Adventureland Inn for two nights (along with other family members booked in other rooms) with the purpose of celebrating our Granddaughter's 2nd birthday. The rooms are overpriced costing close to $200 a night. They would not honor are AARP card which I found perplexing. The suite was ok, bathroom was small, Keurig coffee maker was a plus, but the paper cups and glasses are cheap and not desrving of a room costing this much. I have never stayed in a hotel with so many petty rules concerning the pool area. No beverages are allowed that are not bought at their pricey bar. We couldn't even take in bottled water. They have these people in referee outfits that patrol the area. The treatment by these folks put a real damper on the activites. Even while setting up the tables for our granddaughter's birthday, the ref came over and reminded me of their food and beverage rules. I assured him that my daughter had talked to the mangagement and understood what could and could not be done. It was close to harrassment the whole time we were at the pool area. The adults in our party could not believe the level of control these people exerted. We began to call them the Gestapo. We did not pay such a high price to be treated in such a condescending manner. I would not stay there again.

“Fun stay”

My family stayed here over the July 4th weekend. The room was nice but noisy until the pool area closed. We had a balcony room overlooking one of the pool areas. The pools were nice. There were a couple of small waterslides, and the water was warm. We brought our own breakfast food and did not eat at the resort. The trolley to Adventureland was very convenient and saved us the parking fee. There is an excellent BBQ restaurant in walking distance from the hotel. The location of the resort is good. Overall, we were happy with our stay and had fun. We would stay there again, but probably not get a balcony room because of the noise.
