A colleague and I booked two rooms at the Extended StayAmerica in Fort Wayne for a short business trip. We booked here because an entire busload of people who were on a tour we were following for a work-related video were staying here. As soon as we checked in, we quickly turned around and checked out. Both our rooms were unexceptable - not very clean and smelled. Mine smelled like burnt fried food and his smelled like fresh paint. The floors were dirty. The linens were not acceptable and the television did not work. The rooms did not have adequate space or equipment for us to be able to do the necessary editing and computer work. These were issues other hotels on our weeklong road trip routinely provided.
After deciding we could not stay, we went to the front desk and told the clerk that the rooms would not work for us and we were leaving for another hotel. We were polite about it and expected that to be that. We moved to the Hyatt Place on W. Washington Center Road and had a totally fabulous experience.
When I receieved my corporate credit card statement a few weeks later, I was astounded to see not one but TWO charges for two nights each for the Extended StayAmerica hotel. I immediately filed a complaint with American Express, which launched an investigation. I totally expected the hotel to correct what was obviously a mistake. But no. Hotel manager Jessica Coons lied 100 percent in her documentation to American Express and said the charges were legit. "...Hotel manager upgraded rooms free of charge. Upon check out was asked how stay was, no complaints brought to any of the staff's attention at that time," she wrote. TOTAL LIE.
I never asked for nor received an upgrade. I never checked out because we never officially stayed in this horrible hotel. We turned around and left IMMEDIATELY after seeing our rooms. Never even unpacked. I have receipts from the Hyatt Place showing we checked out the same time we supposedly checked out of Extended Stay. I have statements from my colleague testifying that what I'm saying is the truth and I have a busload of people who can testify that we did not in fact stay at that hotel where they unfortunately were forced to stay on the nights we were supposedly there.
Extended StayAmerica and its staff is a dirty, lying, unprofessional, cheating hotel that will never get my business again. I urge you not to give them any either. Stay at the Hyatt Place in Fort Wayne. And if in another city, drive by any Extended StayAmerica location and opt for a hotel with class.
