We stayed one night in this hotel with our two daughters, ages 6 and 12. Based on the reviews of other people on this site it seemed like a reasonable deal.
The room reeked of B.O. and the blanket on one of the beds was noticeably filthy with god-knows-what smeared on it. My skin crawled just lying between the sheets. Also, the hotel only provided one towel, one washcloth and one little single-use foil packet of shampoo (for a family of four!). The toilet roll had only a few sheets left on it, and there were no extra rolls so we ran out of TP in the middle of the night (my guess is that they don't provide extra rolls in the room because the regular class of clientele probably steals them). The shower was filthy with mildew everywhere.
The walls of the rooms were really thin, and we could unfortunately quite clearly hear the people in the next room having sex. Questionable people were continuously loitering around in the parking lot and lobby (I was really worried our vehicle was going to get broken into). Many, many people were yelling, slamming doors, arguing and carrying on in the hallways until at least 3am (which was when I finally fell asleep).
My first reaction upon seeing the dingy smelly lobby for the first time was to just go to a different hotel, but my husband said we should give it a chance; I am very sorry I didn't act on my first impulse to get the h*ll out of there. I made the kids shower as soon as they got home today, and I haven't unpacked our luggage, but when I do, I think I'm going to burn the clothes we wore there. It was that gross. In short, it's a bedbug and ho infested flea pit. Avoid it. I have no idea why this hotel got reasonably good reviews from other people. On the bright side though, if you are looking for a conveniently located hotel that probably provides a good hourly rate, this is the place for you!

In June 2010, the hotel had 2 separate sales groups totaling 40 rooms that were sent by travel agents for a 6 weeks stay. Unfortunately, the groups were loud and boisterous. The hotel requested them to be quieter as they were disturbing other guests. However, the groups did not comply with the hotels request and were therefore evicted (after 2 days of stay) during the night. The experience was unfortunate for the hotel and our other guests. It is always our intent to provide a quiet and comfortable environment in our hotel.
In reference to the comment made regarding bedbugs, it is certainly and completely untrue. As this was written well before the bedbug scare in the United States. We here at the Fox Valley Inn are very proud to say that we are bedbug free and have never had bedbugs. This is a statement that numerous top chain hotels can not make. We lost zero guests to that dilemma.
In regards to the guest amenities, our rooms consist of supplies for up to 2 guests. If the guest needs additional amenities, they are available at our 24 hour front desk.
In response to the condition of the room, our housekeeping department is adamant about providing only clean furnishings. If a guest found anything unacceptable they should contact the front desk soon after checking in. We would be very happy to accommodate our guests to ensure their stay with us is comfortable.
In addressing the comment about thin walls, we don't find this to be a common problem because the hotel was built in an era(1970) where materials used were much sturdier than what is used today in construction. Therefore we have been told by many guests, that they didn't hear a thing and had a wonderful rest, leaving the hotel refreshed. Regarding the hotel lobby, it is grand. Reminiscent of a time gone by. When people first enter the hotel, the lobby immediately captures their attention. It was created at a time when things were more spacious in design. Our lobby is certainly not dingy however it reflects a decor of early colonialism.
The hotel has a zero tolerance policy for any activity that is suspicious or appears to be illegal. We also have a high tech security system that has surveillance throughout all public areas of the property. Anything that a guest would find suspicious should be reported to the 24 hour front desk immediately so proper action can be taken if needed. Incidentally, hourly rentals are not permitted by law in the city of Aurora, Illinois and we certainly abide by the law.
All of our staff and management at the Fox Valley Inn strive to make the guest experience a positive one. We encourage repeat business, and in order to this we must be sensitive to our guest needs. We certainly welcome all guests and appreciate their feedback.
