My wife and I just came back from two days at Marsha's Vineyard. The first thing I want to specify is that in my opinion, this is not a Bed & Breakfast. The room was nice, but the brochure states: "Amish cheese and sparking cider await your arrival" neither of these were available for our stay. Secondly, the brochure states: "a full country breakfast will be served with recipes from local Amish and Mennonite women. This was not the case either. Upon our arrival, there was no one present to greet us. An envelope with a key and instructions was stuck on the door. After unloading all our luggage and freshening up, my wife and I left to get some dinner. Upon our return, a gentleman came and informed us that Marsha was out of town for the day and would check on us the following day. He also said that if we had any questions or needed anything to let him know. At this point, we did not have any questions or problems. The next morning we realized that this "Bed & Breakfast" would not be serving breakfast. The refrigerator in the kitchen contained a tin of cinnamon rolls, a few chocolate cookies, a small loaf of pumkin bread, milk and orange juice, and two cups of yogurt. There were also little boxes of cereal, two bananas, and coffee was available if we wanted to make it -- A continental breakfast!! Since we had plans, we made due and went out for a few hours. When we came back to the room early in the afternoon, our room had not been touched. We left again and came back around 4:30 pm and the room had been straightened up and the refrigerator had been restocked with a new pack of snickerdoodle cookies, a small loaf of banana nut bread, and two new cups of yogurt. The bananas, which we had eaten, were not replaced. When we returned around 8:30 pm, my wife called Marhsa, as we had not heard from her, to inquire about the breakfast situation. Marsha stated that she wasn't doing breakfasts anymore and that many B&Bs were going this route. My wife explained to her the B&Bs we've stayed at usually serve a gourmet type breakfast and offer a more personal level of service when compared to hotels. And that if we wanted a continental breakfast we could have stayed at a hotel for nearly half the price. Marsha did offer to get us something if we needed it, but otherwise this is how her B&B operates. I could go on about the disappointing experience we had at this B&B, but my point is that for double the price of a hotel, we got a continental breakfast and the lowest level of service we have ever had at a Bed & Breakfast. We most likely will come back to Arthur, but we will not stay here. I do want to add that my wife and I had a very enjoyable time in Arthur Illinois. Our favorite experience was having dinner in an Amish home. The family that we visited had 5 beautiful children and they all made us feel very welcome. The meal was delicious and plentiful. I highly recommend this experience.
