“Does not deserve the Marriot name”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

We are frequent visitors to the Marriot chain and I have never read a review PRIOR to staying in one but I will for all Marriots in the future. This Marriot truely does not reflect the Marriot family reputation. Stayed for two nights in a suite with 4 people. The living area itself was quite comfortable and large. The bathroom was very small and the shower was like a gentle mist instead of a nice heavy rain. The beds were full size (even though the room could easily accomadate queens- when will hotels stop using this size ???) so it was very cramped sleeping. The mattress and pillows had seen their life, afterlife and then some, did not make for a good night sleep. If you have children guard your remote. Every time you turn on the tv it automatically goes to Marriot On-Demand with two easy clicks you just bought yourself a movie for the low low price of $17.99. Some small features, like a list of nearby resturants and a channel guide are not included in your room price. Once you find a pizza place that delivers be sure to call on your cellie or you'll be charged 75cents for that local call. The walls and hallways carry a lot of sound, but don't follow it down to the breakfast buffet. The food was less than mediocere and one customer had curdled milk. (this too is not included in your room, but for a small 5.00 fee you too can leave hungry after eating)As others had stated a lot of mechanical repair is in dire need. We also had to swipe many times (while standing outside in the snow, wind and 20 degrees) and the elevator got stuck open while we were in it. Most of the staff were pleasent except for Toni, she was working the front desk when we had complaints. Her lack of professionalism and curtosy made me feel like I was at a Super 8 motel. I agree with fellow travelers that have posted that this particular hotel lacks the Marriot charm, style and friendliness and you should stay somewhere else.

“Stayed for Business”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

Have stayed at the Courtyard Chicago Arlington Heights/South for two nights per month for the last three months. Some of the plus are:

- Good location just off the I-90 Toll Road, near O'Hare airport.
- Close to where I have to work when there.
- Close to Schuamburg and the Woodfield Mall, that has lots of good stores and restaurants around.
- Pretty good buffet breakfast and great staff at the breakfast.
- King bed rooms are set up nicely with a couch.
- Three different newspapers offered in the lobby.
- Nice 24 hour coffee station in the lobby with tea and hot chocolate.
- Close to a Portillo's.

Some of the cons are:
- Very Slow WiFi. So slow that I am thinking of staying somewhere else as I can't get my work done sometimes.
- Rooms while set up like other Marriott Courtyards I have stayed at, are kind of looking aged. Could use newer office chairs and the beds while comfy look saggy.
- I am a Marriott Rewards Gold member and there is no advantage staying at this Courtyard because of that. Never offered a better room. Not even a small bottle of water that other Courtyards offer at check in.

“Not Even Close To Marriott's Standards”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 October 2011

I stayed here one night for business & wish I picked a different hotel. The only good thing I can say about this hotel is that the front desk lady was very nice! Other than that, I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone. I first had problems getting into the building from the parking lot, which I had to swipe my card five times before it unlocked the outside door. Second, I had to do the same with my card to get in the room. Once I got in, I noticed the security latch was just about to fall off the wall, which was hitting the door when I was trying to get in...you think they would notice that when they cleaned it from the previous tenants. I actually love staying at Marriott's & I cannot believe this hotel has its name. Do yourself a favor & stay anywhere but here. There are plenty of hotels within driving distance from this one.

“Hotel Clog drains causes flooding”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 September 2011

I stayed at this Hotel on a weekend when they had a rainstorm. The Parking lot was flooded due to the hotel's drains being clogged. This is what their hotel employees told us.
We could not get to our car as it was knee deep in water. At 6am they told us someone would be there to pump out the water -- which also got into the hotel loby and ground floor rooms.
They did offer a free breakfast -- and -- where not very proactive -- in any other form of compensation. The Manger offer us to file a claim form which we filled out. to make this short -- the Marriott Claim's will not pay for any loss or damages. They say there is a sign posted about the flooding. Which no one can see. And it was an act of mature!
DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL!

Room Tip: Do not stay -- due to parking lot and hotel being flooded!

“Clean, comfortable room, reasonable price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 September 2011

Hotel was undergoing some sort of renovation but it didn't really take away from the experience. Staff was courteous and helpful at checkin and throughout the stay. The 24-hour coffee service in the lobby is pretty much standard in any hotel these days, but the ice water with fruit slices in it was a welcome addition for this non-coffee-drinker.

The room itself was clean and well-maintained. Everything worked, nothing was missing.

Rating was knocked down from a 5 to a 4 due to an overambitious housekeeper who wanted to clean my room before I was finished using it -- and before check-out time. I understand housekeepers want to hurry up and get their rooms done so they can go home, but this issue is pervasive throughout the industry. I fail to see the point of a "checkout time" -- not to mention a "Do Not Disturb" sign -- if they don't happen to fit into a housekeeper's schedule.
