We stayed at this hotel for four nights this summer on a trip to Chicago. We stayed at this hotel knowing that it wasn’t a Chicago hotel but this suited us fine and I would endorse this hotel as a perfect base for visiting the surrounding area. (Chicago, Milwaukee, beaches on Lake Michigan and the Indiana sand dunes are all trips we did from this location).
If you are planning to stay at this hotel as a foreign traveller to Chicago but are not planning to hire a car, I would suggest this would not be the best place for you. Slap bang in the centre of four main highways in Addison, the views from the room are not the greatest. However, the size and comfort of the rooms makes up for the lack of view. The noise from the freeway wasn’t a problem either. Having a car and staying at this hotel is a must! Otherwise the hotel did lay on a shuttle service to the airport since it is only 10 minutes down the road.
The hotel has fast free internet in the ‘business centre’ in the lobby. The self service laundry was also useful to us since we were on a three week trip (small fee applies). On conclusion this hotel is perfect for self catering/ self contained stay. This was supported by useful room amenities like a fridge and microwave. On the subject of the room, it was very spacious (little one loved being able to run around); well equipped with items above and beyond what average hotels have (but then again nothing less than what one would expect from a hotel carrying the ‘Hilton’ name). The bed was oversized and comfortable.
The gym was small but had decent, expensive equipment. The pool was also not overly big but at times we were the only ones in there so it wasn’t a big deal. (The hotel was busy with guests).
We did not eat at the hotel since the usual big chain eats were just down the road but felt this option was cheaper than the prices and variety offered by the room service/ restaurant menus.
The day staff at the hotel were great, warm and welcoming however, the people doing the night shifts seem to be of a different breed. Sure they smile and are polite however, try and ask where the nearest beach is along the lake and you get a puzzled look and reply: “What a beach?”. Well this is the reply we got. Thinking it was just us crazy Brits speaking in ‘cockney’ we rephrased to ‘shoreline’ and even tried ‘sand’ and ‘sea’ but just got a smile and “erm, I am not sure what you are talking about” reply. We assumed that this was a crazy question that there were not any beaches along the lake but we found loads!
In conclusion, a fair priced, good valued Hilton hotel and we would never hesitate to stay there again.
