We had planned our Kauai vacation a year in advance for our 8th Anniversary. We had read all the reviews online, but knew we wanted to stay in Princeville on the North side of the island. Tip: Plan ahead and do all your research online before you leave. This will give you an idea of all the places to see/hike/explore/swim/tour/eat and you can plan out your week of activities on the first day so you have a plan. The 40 minute train tour was quite memorable and we enjoyed feeding all the wild pigs/chickens in the middle of the tour. Take advantage of good weather for the canyon tour. Many days it will be rained out/fog, so monitor the weather for this trip/tour. We were pleasantly surprised by unit 25A, which was an "upgraded" unit with all new granite/tile/floors. The unit was huge and had everything we wanted, including in the kitchen, for we enjoy cooking every other night and eating in. Make sure to try a Ono Char Burger for lunch on the side of Hwy 50, south of the resort, a nice island treat. The pool was nice and there was poolside BBQ's for the guests to use. The front desk was very helpful. You can save a bit by planning ahead. We shopped at Safeway and Costco once for our extra food needs for the week. Foodland right next door to the resort had everything else you might need for your stay. Kalypso had some of the best calamari I've ever eaten. And their signature seafood pasta was quite a treat. Make sure to take advantage of all the roadside farmers markets and daily farmers markets for the best in local, fresh fruit and vegetables. We put over 700 miles on the rental car this week. There was construction going on in the distance, but we were out exploring the whole island each day from sunrise to sunset, so it didn't bother us at all. The chickens were a welcome alarm clock in the morning. We will enjoy coming back again in the future. In reading all the recent reviews, I think some of these people would find something to whine about at any resort they stayed at. We enjoyed our stay here and look forward to returning next year.
