san pedro sula has a reputation of being a dangerous city, and that this place sits in the heart of it all. but actually, the location isn't too bad-- i wandered around that area as a solo female & only got a couple of weird looks. plus, you have to get buzzed into the lobby (when the front desk people finally get off their cell phones & look up). my first impression was that it was a little kitschy, but you cant expect modern decor for $15/person. it even had AC, cable TV & a decent bathroom. however. within a span of a few hours, i saw a huge roach wander across the room, several ticks-- two of which were on my bedsheets & one crawling on my tank top that i had draped over the bed post! there were dead moths in the lobby and even more roaches. this is also where they keep their cup'o'noodles, candy bars, cakes and drinks for sale. for $15/person, you'd at least expect sanitary conditions yeah? also, even though the room was a good size, you didn't get much privacy-- there was a huge window with a very thin curtain on the hallway side so you couldn't turn the lights on without worrying about someone walking by & peeking in on you (most rooms on the third floor had this feature). we only stayed that one night so i could meet with my friends that were just arriving in SAP that night (i had been in tela).. we were all eager to leave the next morning.
