The Copantl is an ideosyncratic hotel. I always try to stay there when I am in San Pedro Sula and like for not being a typical hotel.
Rooms, facilities and food are all adequate. Service is friendly.
The price is reasonable compared with other hotels in the city.
The swimming pool, tennis courts and gym are all excellent.

I'm a frequent traveler and had in the last 4 years appr.250 Nights in this hotel. I can compare, travel around the world. For me the best choice of hotel, because I get in conact with a lot of people in the lobby (reataurant) or in the bar. No otehr hotel in SPS can compete in this category.(may the bar of crowne plaza)
Rooms:
Old style renovated in the last 2 Years. Carpet replaced by ceramic tiles in the room. To less space for clothes. Beds are perfect - in best quality. Batroom are fresh painted and mostly all valves, taps and rains in bad condition. Sometimes no water or water are rosty brown. AC is very noisy, replaced during last renovations by cheap noisy models. Rooms in Level 2 are very noisy, each noise from the lobby (restaurant) comes into your room. And they haev nearly every week some (wedding) parties in the lobby!! Half of teh rooms are located close to the genrators (AC; electr.)...all day and night noisy!! Windows are the 1st one withaout sealings, each noise from outside comes to the room (Traffic, Pool Party music, live music events around the hotel.

Breakfast:
Pretty good local breakfast. You get mostly in the morning the rest food from the prvious night dinner of wedding parties etc. The fruits are amazing.Also the self made bread and cookies. The juice is not always 100% nature, depends on teh no. of guests they add powder and water.The cook make excellent omeletts etc.I missed sausages, ham, cheese and standard marmelade on the buffet. Also mostly no Yoghurt and no cerelalis (just sweet flakes). The home made marmelade of Pineapple or bears is not bad, but they serve every day the same cup and add water, the cup is not protected and I saw often flys on it. The missing part of international standard products makes the breakfast simple after 3 days. On Weekend mostly local people (families) are opn the breakfast, mostly crowded.
Reaturant/Food
Pretty good food. If you get not good food, than the cook must be sick or on vacation. The only professional mamager (from the swiss) controls the kitchen and food things. Try the grilled meet in the 7th floor with amazing view, perfect!
Management
I analysed that this is the biggest problem of the hotel. They are thinking really cheap in all issues they do!! Very unprofessionel!! The highest priority is not the customer that is a major problem of the hotel. To see how they manage the service staff in a very inefficient way makes me sad for tis hotel. Management is saving on all issues. For example on the breakfast menu: They reduced the standard in the last 3 years: No Yoghurt anymore, no marmelade and for few weeks no butter.. I was in May during the last bad earthquake in the hotel. The Hotel got a lot damageed. They evakuated the hotel in this night, few hours later they released the hotel!!! I'm 100% sure:In Germany they had to rebuild the hotel!! The yjust covered the biggest problems and fixed the crakcs very cheap. I have seen and also pictures of this, that the complete hotel got a big crack above the 1st level around the hotel. Since this I don't trust the hotel anymore!!! May on teh next earthquake teh Hotel gets more damaged, because they didn't fix the last cracks right.
Internet Access:
In the room mostly a weak signal available.... Also if the hotel is crowded the transferrates are going down to 0 bytes/s.
Fazit:
Best Hotel for long stays, if you get a quiet room and you like the local food on breakfast.
Internet is not reliable A kind of unsafe regarding the earthquakes. The 4 or 5 stars are not based on international standard, may based on the price they charge you!!

I suggest you spend the little extra money to get a junior suite -- beds much more comfortable and very roomy with an outside view / balcony. The restaurant is good and attentive to your needs -- the buffet is very convenient and the food is good. The open atmosphere of the lobby and restaurant is very relaxing. Service is quite good. The bar is nice -- they are making some renovations in the main bar and this should be ready soon. Overall -- NO complaints -- a nice place to go and convenient to shops and the mall.

I stayed at the Copantl over a work trip for two nights and after the first night realized the tub filled with water when I showered. The following morning I left the hotel at 6am and asked at the desk if someone would please unclog the drain throughout the course of the day. They assured me this would be done. When I returned to the hotel after a long day at 9pm, there was no water in my room. I called the desk and someone came up with a toilet plunger and i said that was not the problem. Then he left and shortly thereafter I had water. Then I realized that the tub still filled with water so I called down to see if someone would come and fix it. A half hour later no one arrived and I called the front desk again. They assured me someone would be up in the next 5 minutes and they would call me back to be sure that person arrived. 10 minutes later I called the front desk back to which the lady laughed that no one had been up yet. She assured me that someone would be up shortly. Another half hour later someone knocked on my door and I sent them away due to the fact it was late, I had another early morning planned and was tired and in pajamas.
