“I will be back! Loved it!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2011

Our flight to La Ceiba provided us with an interesting twist> Due to heavy fog and rain on the runway we were unable to land. We were rerouted to Roatan where the airlines (Canjet) put us up in the 5 star Henry Morgan resorts.

Once here four of us decided to remain for a couple of days, explore the island and catch the ferry across to the mainland.

The ferry ride is 1 1/2 hrs, great service!

Palma Real is about 20mins outside La Ceiba in the village of Roma.

The hotel staff greeted us with great hospitality> The front desk staff spoke english flawlessly and suggested we have breakfast while they checked our rooms and took care of our luggage.

We caught up with the rest of our group (15 in total aged from 15 months to 67 years). They had taken the flight across once the airport reopened but they also spent another 9hrs for a half hr flight due to rain!

We brought the sunshine and for the rest of our week the sun shone! Tourism in Honduras is NOT commercialized, spanish is spoken with english clrealy as a second language. I personally do not like resorts that make me feel like I am still back home _ I love the traditional way of life and want to experience the culture of the city or area I am visiting.

The food was a mixture of local and north american which is nice to experience. Our rooms were cleaned daily with lots of towels! Any request was handled immediately! Part of our group stayed in the villa and did not get housekeeping one day however once the front desk was made aware of any situation they took care of us!

We also make a point of tipping modestly each day and the service escalated - with our morning cafe con leche served to perfection and our wine arrived to the table as soon as we sat down!

The staff gave spanish lessons, took us fishing and asked for our input into activities - they sincerely were open to suggestion. Very frinedly and very helpful.

Palma Real is ideally situated for all exploration - we went on a jungle tour and visited the wild life refugee - others we know went snorkeling and visited the hot springs> There is no other hotel nearby and we walked the beach daily!

“The Hotel was fine but the excursions were finer!”

In all, we had a great trip to a new destination. We highly recommend Honduras to all those who enjoy discovering new places.

We took advantage of everything the Hotel Palma Real had to offer (except volleyball, basketball and soccer):
We played tennis for 1 hour, while the sun was playing "hide and seek";
Went fishing off the pier ... caught no fish, but the sky of the sunset was gorgeous!
Played pool by the pools ... at night, and danced in the disco which had a nice view of the beach; and even took a Spanish lesson on a rainy afternoon, with Rigo Torres (good devoted chef animator of the Hotel Palma Real)!
Saw some exotic dancing shows, including one on the beach with fire torches :o).
Played mini-golf and ping pong by the sea ...fun; tried water polo and boogie boarding... fun, as well;
One hour of kayaking in the ocean ... exhausting ... I still feel sore ... luckily it was the last activity of our stay, (don't forget sun tan lotion because it is sold for $36. at the Hotel!)!

In addition, we did 3 small excursions:
A short tour of the city La Ceiba; a tour in a tiny boat to go snorkeling at Cayos Cochinos amidst the 2nd longest barrier reef in the world ... it was wonderful! And last but not least, a real adrenaline rush... we zip-lined through the canopy of the jungle at Sambo Creek (18 cables altogether, one of which was one kilometer long!) and to complete our perfect afternoon, after a little volcanic mud rub, we had a relaxing soak in natural thermal water pools filled with 2 waterfalls, one at 250°C degree! Then after little aloes rub... our skin felt like silk! This was our first experience, the scenery was quite exceptional!!
We ate and drank well, even a little too much, during our 2 week vacation but hey! what the heck, we only live once! lol

Too bad the water slide park was closed due to off season (opening in February). The Hotel offered free access to the park on weekends.

“great place to stay for the traveller seeking a wilderness setting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2011

My wife and I went to Palma Real Beach Hotel from jan 6-20,2011.We had a great time there.Food was great-a bit repetative on our second week but lots of choices. It is a 3 star hotel on the beach. We liked it as it was more Honduran than the Cancun variety 5 star hotels filled with Americans. Here we met locals and ate local Honduran food. There was good night life-disco closed past 1am and with one show of huge bonfire on the beach(Afro-tahiti night)--was great.
We met Rigo -the nightlife speaker-he even taught spanish on certain days and took us fishing off the pier.Lots of booze and very friendly staff. There was hot water in the bathroom so showers were great.Clean and very big room with 2 double beds.Furniture was made of rich mahogany.Beds were a bit high to get into though. We got plenty of towels and toiletries.
Beach was cleaned every day of sea debris that washed up.It was great to walk for miles surrounded by jungle wild trees-no other hotels -a feeling of being alone .Never had a problem with locals on the beach.
We went to cayos cachinos to snorkel at the neo-american barrier reef-2nd largest in the world.I wanted to scuba dive (like I did in Panama,DR,Columbia and Venezuela-with no license required) but I needed a PADI license which i did not have--too bad but snorkling gave us both the same feeling with the prestine corals and abundant fish.
We went zip-lining thru the jungle--it was thrilling-even for our age in the 50's. We took a jeep up a jungle mountain and went down 18 steel lines down the mountain over jungle tree tops--very exciting--recommended to all.We swam in a pool fed by 2 waterfalls--one cold and the other boiling hot(250C).The hot water fall is fed from a geothermic vent from the top of the mountain that runs down in a stream into this natural pool.
All in all a great place to visit --to live and feel the Honduran experience.
The only drawback was that the Jungle Water Park was closed till February-too bad would have been a great place to play for a day--it was included in the hotel on weekends.
There was 2 a la carte restaurants -one Italian and the other Asian-both great food-great service.
We even went sea kayaking--got a bit burned.
Recommended to those seeking a quiet beach setting. One thing you need--lots of bug spray-lots of invisible black flies. The hotel did spray insecticide all over the hotel compound. Still got bit -must be all the crene caramel I ate--sweet blood.

“just ok”

I came to this hotel having been to La Ceiba and knowing what it is like, and what the beach would be like. I won't say anything bad about the beach except that there was a terrible odor of garbage or something and I couldn't stand lying on the chairs by the beach. The pools are lovely and the rooms are quite nice too. The only downside is I didn't have a balcony. The food is terrible. Breakfast was ok, but the rest was not. Most of the time I just had fruit which was amazing. Service in the restaurant is non existant. I guess for La Ceiba and the fact that there are hardly any hotels this hotel is alright but if you are choosing between diffferent all inclusives in different countries I would go somewhere else.

“Bad Experience--Never Again!!!”

Dirty bathroom when we checked in, no towels either. Asked for housekeeping, but they never came until we asked a second time. Every day of our stay was this same experience! Frustrating! BUT, THE WORST PART WAS after we returned home we found that the hotel was CHARGING US FOR THREE EXTRA NIGHTS THAT WE DID NOT STAY AT THE HOTEL!!! THEY insisted that we owed them for these nights EVEN WHEN WE FILED A DISPUTE WITH VISA, FORGING MY SIGNATURE ON A DOCUMENT!!! A DISHONEST AND CORRUPT COMPANY!!! I WOULD STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL AND ITS AFFILIATES!!
