In spite of one bad review and one average review on Tripadvisor, based on the price and the photos on the hotel's website, we decided it couldn't be too bad. We are OK with simplicity, as long as things are clean and we get what we pay for. We don't need TV, internet, etc. that was all expected. For the $46/night (including the $10 breakfast for the 2 of us) we were to pay, we expected: clean beds, hot water, a clean bathroom, and a really good breakfast. Paying $10 in Copan for breakfast is a lot. When we compared this hotel's prices to others in town, we had reason to expect it would be decent. What we found, on the other hand, was a very run-down, dirty hotel which clearly has not had regular guests for months. This hotel should be considered a hostel. Yes, there are private bathrooms, but I've stayed in much nicer/cleaner hostels for less. The private bathroom, by the way, does NOT have hot water, nor is there even enough water pressure to take a shower. When we asked the only individual managing the hotel (the cook) about it, she replied that the water pressure is turned off by the city during the day...OK. We know this is not the case because we soon after stayed at a different hotel. Anyway, the cook, bless her heart, has clearly been left to try to manage this place that the owner has all but abandoned. If the owner wants to charge these prices, he needs to do some MAJOR renovations and updating. The bed in our room was covered with dust/dirt, as was everything else. There weren't separate pillows to sleep on with fresh pillow cases, there were only those that had been sitting "decoratively" on the bed collecting dust. There was one picture on the wall with lots of stains on it. (Really - is it that hard to find simple, clean artwork to put on the walls?) The bathroom was atrocious, with holes in the concrete on the floor around the toilet, where lots of critters could come in at anytime - and they did. If you choose to stay here, hopefully you like cockroaches in your room, which we saw two of. Don't get me wrong, Central America has cockroaches, we live here. So that's why we also know that it's very possible to not have them in your living spaces. This just smacks of carelessness. We had difficulty getting a good night's rest, considering what might be crawling around here and there. The towels in the bathroom, even though they smelled clean, had numerous stains on them. Again, totally unacceptable in a hotel. Then, breakfast the next morning. I'm sure the cook is doing the best she can with what she's been handed, so I don't blame her at all, but it was terrible. Everything tasted stale - it was as though even the cookware had somehow gotten stale and made everything cooked in it have the same flavor. It was strange and definitely not worth the money. The cook is a really nice lady, however, and she will help you in any way that she can.
Were there any good things? Yes - the veranda does have a beautiful view, and the stream sounds lovely. We also definitely had privacy since nobody else was there (and now we know why). Bottom line, we were very disappointed because we paid a simple hotel price but got a dirty hostel room.
