“Honduras First Impression”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

We were quite impressed with the rustic charm and amazing cuisine. The staff was excellent and the owner, Flauvia, was a delight to spend an evening with. They made arrangements for trips into Copan to visit the ruins, enjoy the town, and birdwatching up in the mountains. The drive there is 2 1/2 hours from San Perdro Sula on a winding road and a bumpy ride up to the hacienda. But the positive experience is on the the top of my travel list.
P.S. We had absolutely no fear, regardless of what the newspapers reported and the grounds have security at night.

“A wonderful place where to stay close to Maya ruins”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

If you want to visit the archelogical Maya site of Copan, I suggest to stay for the nght and dinner at Hacienda San Lucas. The place is fascinating and cozy: an old 'finca' restaured by the owner Leah taking care of the nature and saving energy.
The view from the place is stunning, the atmosphere both elegant and easy, the nature marvellous
I really appreciated everything

“Paradise for birders - and everyone else”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

A unique and wonderful place. The setting overlooking the mountains, Copan River, ruins and town is spectacular. The staff and service are exceptional (e.g., they even provide complimentary laundry service daily). Cuisine is excellent - they use very fresh local ingredients and prepare traditional but very healthy dishes. Many activities are available, and HSL will make the arrangements for you seamlessly. We chose to visit the ruins of Copan and Quirigua and to spend 3 days birding; HCL arranged for a wonderful guide for all of this. Hiking, horseback riding, yoga and massage are also on offer. As for birds: a ferruginous pygmy owl roosts next to the main lodge and just on the premises can be seen and heard blue-crowned and turquoise browed mot-mots, Montezuma Oropendulas, several species of hummingbird, black-headed saltators, white crested magpie jays and many others. A variety of different habitats can be visited within a few miles of HSL and the bird life is quite prolific. WiFi is free but the WiFi server is a bit erratic. However, telecom is consistent and clear, so e-mail can easily be done with BlackBerry or smartphone. Lighting in rooms is solar-powered and low-intensity, so if you like to read in bed, bring a headlamp or booklamp. Flavia, owner and hostess of Hacienda San Lucas, is warm and charming and will make you feel welcome and at home. The Copan area is well patrolled by police and you will feel quite safe there. HSL will arrange a private car and driver to transport you between the San Pedro Sula airport and HSL (it's a 3-hour drive), or you can take a Hedman Alas bus and HSL will meet you at the bus stop.

“EXCEPTION AL EXPERIENCE”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

I’m a world traveler, yet rarely do I return home with such fond memories of my stay in a specific establishment. In the case of Copan, Honduras, I have nothing but the highest of praise for the Hacienda San Lucas.

Immediately upon our arrival, we were greeted with refreshing tropical drinks and warm smiles. The quality of a hotel or resort is gauged by the degree of cordiality offered - in the case of the Hacienda, we were delighted beyond expectations.

The ambience was casual and warm; the staff were hospitable and friendly, the food was superior. Each meal was prepared with an eye toward taste and presentation, with an emphasis on the local ingredients and flavors.

The cottage-style rooms were simple but well appointed, extremely clean and comfortable, set in a woodsy tropical environment. The gardens were well manicured and allowed for relaxation. What a pleasure it was to sit perched on the eco-friendly property’s hill, overlooking the ancient Mayan valley and flowing river, sipping on a tropical drink, and coming to peace with tranquility and nature.

No visit to Copan, Honduras would be complete without a stay at the Hacienda Can Lucas!!!!

Room Tip: Call well in advance. rooms book up due to the popularity of the Hacienda

“This will make my top ten places to stay in the world!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

We absolutely loved the Hacienda San Lucas. We felt right at home as Flavia (the owner) met us at the bus station. The hacienda is built around a 100 year old family farm house, beautifully simple and simply beautiful, overlooking the valley where Copan sits and the mountains that surround the city.

The hacienda will set up excursions for you or you can relax on the property, have a massage, take a yoga class from Leah, hike some of the trails to a local village or sit back in a chair and watch the Copan River meander through the valley. The yoga studio was open to nature and was sitting on the crest of the mountain in a beautiful spot.
Each night the hacienda cooks a wonderful four course meal of local fare and each morning a home cooked breakfast (breakfast is included). You feel like you are eating with family as you get to know the other guests, Flavia and her family.

As you head back to your room each night you are greeted by a room full of candles, in fact most of the hacienda is lit by candles each night. Very romantic, very cool and the Hacienda San Lucas will probably make my top ten list of places to stay in the world, five stars in my book.
