I travel to Copan often for work, more than 20 trips to date. And if I am only in for a few days or weeks I stay here.
Here is why, Iguana Azul, is the best hostel in town in my opinion. It is the cleanest, most quiet, and best furnished. The windows are covered by bars so guests feel secure to sleep with the windows open allowing the cool Copan night breezes to freshen the room. Also, unlike other hostels that leave there guests on their own to explore, the owners Howard and Angela, are always available to offer advice and help. The showers and bathrooms at Iguana Azul are the best of the hostels as well. Copan often loses water during the summer months - this is normal - and even when the rest of the town is out of water the Casa de Cafe and Iguana Azul have water. Plus, there is good water pressure and hot water and the Casa de Cafe does NOT use electric showers which are found in most homes, hotels, and hostels in Central America.
There is always a night watchman on the property so I have always felt VERY safe here. I have stayed here many times and have never had anyone go through my things and I have never had even a penny stolen. This HAS happened to me at other hotels and apartments in Copan. The staff it seems is carefully chosen and the trustworthiness and politeness is clearly reflected in the way they treat you. Not enough kind things can be said about the owners of Casa de Cafe. It is a wonderful family business. English and Spanish spoken.
