“Awesome place on every front - American luxury & a gorgeous slice of nature”

This is a fantastic resort! The accomodations are top notch and the decore/styling is incredibly well done. Nicest I've seen in over 60 countries I've visited. All the construction materials are natural, so the resort blends into the environment and is also very eco-friendly. It is quite peaceful and relaxing, very well organized and an incredible location. All the rooms are right on the beach and the snorkeling and diving is outstanding. Even the beach in front of the resort is a wonderful coral reef with numerous shelves. There is also a nice entry line for ease of beach diving. The staff is awesome! I feel like they are all friends even after only 1 week. Peter is a fantastic chef- so you leave spoiled and well fed. Soguey is a lovely bartender and incredibly patient all-around helper. The owners are wonderful. Everything is very well planned and organized - which must be quite difficult to do in a third world country. The beds are the most comfortable I have slept in. It was a fantastic experience. This is a great way to 'get away'. It is so quiet and there aren't even many boats coming by the beach. Where else in the world can you get fantastic diving, lovely unspoiled beaches and great accomodations without being swamped by other tourists? The dive masters (Anke, Benjamin and Chris) were excellent, the rental equipment was top notch and the reef is the 2nd largest in the world. We saw manta rays, sea horses, lion fish, eels, a fun giant Gray Angelfish that went nose to nose and played with us, gorgeous multi-color coral and much more. I'd definitely go back! Just the right balance of diving, relaxing and socializing. Don't miss this resort!!

Room Tip: All the rooms are fantastic. i don't think there is a bad room. They are all beach front - jus...

The accomodations are very tasteful and a good value. Every meal was delicious and a good variety was provided. We enjoyed the diving and crew and had a wonderful and relaxing time. If you want to get away and find seclusion, this is a great choice!

Room Tip: The King room on the end facing the beach both upstairs and downstrairs in the Monkey La La building...

“Good people, relaxing atmosphere, great shore diving”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 August 2011

That sums it all up. My wife and I have been trying to find a 2nd location to go to besides Bonaire that has good diving and snorkeling. I think we have found it. Tie that in with great food from Peter , a fun and knowledgeable dive master in Anke and a blenny of a bartender in Soguey (also a great diver) we have found it. Of course it is then all held together by Kyle.

One of my worries before my arrival for me as a diver was the ease and access of the shore dives. But my worries were put to rest after the first day. The closeness of the reef in my experience is only rivaled by Bonaire in this part of the world. The second worry was how far was the dock from the resort and how much work would it be for me. As it turned out it was hardly any at all. When I wanted to do an afternoon shore dive , the Utopia crew took care of it. They had my equipment and a fresh tank waiting for me on the dock. And when I didn't have a dive buddy ( my wife is not a diver) Anke became my private dive master. If we decided to return to the dock they then took care of our equipment again. If we came onto shore then we just walked over to the dive shop. No problem.

Granted my wife and I were there during a slow time of the year. Which allowed us to get to know all the people mentioned above more than we probably would have at another time of the year. But we think all of these guys would be great to be around whether they are slow or busy. So we just look at it as our good fortune.

So when we want to take a dive trip that is more secluded and comparable to Bonaire we will go back to Utopia. Because when we left we relaxed and tired ( 23 dives in 8 days) and would like to go back and visit our new friends.

“Off the beated path - with class & island friendships.”

Try traveling with two young teen boys that have been hooked to eletronics. I knew I had to come up with a grand adventure and a learning experience.... but
not "camp like".
We flew in to Roaton in 2 hours then chartered a 4 seater plane that landed in 15 min. on Utila Bay Island. ( we could have took the 4 hour catamaran or the 2 hour fast boat.) Greeted promptly by a pretty face and into an abused mini van. Taking our exit, we waved at the few locals hanging out the cinderblock house window. A narrow bumpy road thru town showed us a humble lifestyle and happy faces. We dropped the bags at the boat dock and we were greeted by the most charming man in a tropical shirt and big grin - it was the cheif from Utopia! Escorted by Peter,we purchased supplies for the week at a local market.
( another unique experience! ) Loaded up and got on board a long narrow island boat the boat ride to the other side of Utila was refreshing. The water splashed up like diamonds in the sky on this beautiful day. Mother nature is the only thing in control of our fun and family adventure at this point. Both boys wanted to be scuba certified by the end of the week so I had my fingures crossed.
By the time we arrived to the pier ( 25 minutes smooth ride ) what ever happens.. happens! We are really remote on this island so take it as it comes. The jungle bus was broken... so we piled into" A " 4wheeler. and took a short jungle path ride.... ( tee hee...you have to go to find out the rest! ) It was just to good to be true! I am sure I gave my kids the trip of thier life.
Kyle and Peter the best at keeping us involved and taking little trips - "festival" Bday on Pidgeon Key" Deep sea fishing - making cevche from the barracuda on the boat! while fishing for more! Blue whale was sighted, .... and the diving was within feet from the beach.... - made of sand and coral ( you need booties)
If your a diver... you will find this to be a paradise trip!
Our dive instructor, Anke, mother of two, was a German Gal with terrific personality and she knew just where to find the sea creatures. -- - I mean ocean life. ( Delightful and fun lady!)
Well , - we were spoiled! Yep, spoiled from the resort, nature, locals and the reef. ----*If your looking for the negative.... its only from the sand fleas when the wind dies down!
Ladies the decor of the resort ... dreamy, Ikea style with furniture made from the jungle trees because Tommy Bahama could not get a boat into the coral reef to unload! haha

My husband and I travel every year for a week or two of scuba diving with another couple, and this year we decided to try something new and go to Utopia Dive Village in Utila. The extra effort to get to this remote Honduran island was well worth it, as we were treated to fantastic hospitality and "go at your own pace" diving. We like to linger and look at the small things, and we felt no sense of rushing from our dive masters, who seemed to sense how to split up the group on the Miss U from Day 1. On the very first dive, we saw a hawksbill turtle, a spotted eagle ray, and several spotted drum. The dive masters were very knowledgeable about where to go for whatever you were looking to see, and pointed out sea horses, arrow blennies, garden eel beds, golden eels, and lots of spiny lobsters. You named it, they would try to find it (and usually could). The gear was waiting for us on the boat, and was carried off by staff at the end of the day, so there was plenty of time to do other things after diving. The entire resort is right on the beach, and so there was plenty to do there (plus the resort has its own reef, Cabanas, which was the best reef of all the ones we visited). The food was fantastic, and Chef Peter was very good about modifications needed for special dietary needs. He even gave me a lesson on making pizza crusts! The owners were very accessible and responsive to special needs. The rooms were relaxing - you felt like you were in a spa - and the open-air bar was a great place to get to know other guests. Finally, the welcoming committee, a dachshund named Paco, was always ready for a cuddle!

Room Tip: Not all rooms have the same good ocean view...but you can see the ones that do from the layout diagr...
