We stayed at Zilla & Ton's place in november 2010. (sorry for the rather late review!)
After a long haul flight from Europe, Ton was at the airport picking us up, and after about 20 min drive we were at our destination. The bungalows we rented were big, nice & comfortable, and had good beds! A small fridge with a (ordered!) cold beer was waiting. A warm and friendly welcome from Ton & Zilla followed at their place, providing us with the most necessary information on our stay at Roatan. Their hospitality and kindness to help out with any Q, made us feel at home right from the start. The breakfast was in one word great, fresh fruits and daily served right at our bungalows.
There was wifi internet acces, not always 100% cover till in the back of the bungalow (at 11.2010) but for the spare moments we needed it, it worked perfectly well when sitting more up front near to Ton & Zillas house. For us this was a non issue. The possibility of cooking by yourself leaves no option out to do so. There is a nice kitchen with all the things you need. But as we tend to have our dinners downtown, enjoying island live, we only used this option twice. Ton & Zilla even offered us to buy foods if needed as they had to shop themselves as well!
The place is next to the islands West Bay road which runs straight into Half Moon Bay after about 1km, where small restaurants, shops, bars etc.. can be found. We stayed the most of our time at Half Moon Bay, where we enjoyed the "70ies lookalike profile". The coastal road at Half Moon Bay is (still) not paved, which leaves the road secured from speeding cars, and gives it a "boulevard-like" pedestrian zone. A lot of small restaurants can be found, as some dive shops. We did our diving with West End Divers, and were very satisfied. We mostly walked the road to Half Moon Bay. Of course you have to watch out for the speedy taxis and cars which tend to drive rather nervously, and sometimes poorly lit. But walking with a small torch, or even lighted mobile phone, we never had one moment of danger, even walking this road in the darkest of night. The other option is to take a taxi, mind you that a drive in one of those can be a (speedy) experience as well.
Next to Ton & Zillas place was a small bakery, and even a Italian hairdresser. so..well what to say...one got everything you need :-) !
A special thanks again to Ton & Zilla for their support, openhearted welcome, and letting us take part in a few nights out in which we all went together, meeting some nice people!
