“Awesome hosts”

We recently stayed at Hobbies for 2 weeks. Upon arrival, Sue showed us our room and made us feel right at home. Our apartment was just perfect size for us the time we were there. John had asked if we needed anything from town and he gladly picked up whatever we needed. They made sure we would enjoy our stay and even supplied us with internet and a phone for use while we stayed. Everything is there and if you need anything, Sue is happy to help.
The first night they made us and the other guests dinner. Man what a feast. Sue brought down a big, I mean big bowl of salsa and we ate and ate. Then they prepared stir fry. Awesome first day and introduction.
Within a few days we were right at home and blending fine. John even took us to his wholesale supplier of seafood for a fresh supply of Shrimp, Lobster, Snapper and some conch. If you can get your hands on some conch, ask John to make his famous conch fritters. They are remarkable! The best anywhere! This is a make yourself at home kind of place and that is what makes it special.
Visiting the reef was one of the highlights. Went out on most days twice and saw something new every time. We spent most mornings having coffee on the dock and enjoying the first rays of sun and with unlimited access to the kayak that made another highlight to go on our own around the reef and thru the neighbouring bay observing the wildlife. Could go on and on about the services provided; you need to experience the island life yourself. Careful of what other places seem to offer; however can’t come thru, Hobbies offers and comes thru for everything.
This is NOT a 5-star resort, so don't expect it to be one. But for great prices, excellent location, peace and quiet, and safe, secure accomodations, we don't think it can be beat. We would return.

“John and Sue great hosts!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2012

John and Sue went out of their way to make us feel at home when TACA elected to keep our baggage in El Salvador. John even took us out in his fishing boat when he was sick. Hobbies far enough away from the West End for peace and quiet, but close enough for easy taxi rides for dinner.
Thanks so much John and Sue!

“John and Sue are awesome!”

Even though its been awhile since I have been in Roatan, and stayed at Hobbies last year, I have still kept in touch with John and Sue. John was a great help recently getting food and supplies to the Majken Broby orphange in Gravel Bay. Even though I am in Texas, John so graciously coordinated getting the supplies they needed immedietly.

I encourage anyone thinking about visiting Roatan, stay at Hobbies Hideaway in Sandy Bay. John and Sue are terrific host and can arrange many island activities. I hope to be making it back to the island in Spring for another visit and will stay at Hobbies.

Also if you have any spare change or extra room in your luggage, take some items to the orphanage www.roatanchildrenshome.com keeps a updated list of current needs.

My family and I had many great adventures on Roatan from this private beachfront hideaway. Many of them similar to the previous reviews so I won't bore anyone with repitition. John and Sue really went out of their way to make our stay a great experience. We have come away from Roatan with some great friends and good stories. I will be recommending John and Sue to my friends and hope to return in the future.

“Hobbies Hideaway is too well known!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 October 2011

I've stayed at this lovely apartment/bar/restaurant and I can tell you its being discovered! Sue & John know how to treat their guests and you will never go away hungry or less than amused and happy. Great storytellers, great people and the accommodations are just right no matter how large or small your travel party is.

Room Tip: Downstairs room closest to bar is a wonderful cozy aprtment. And the bar doesn't stay awake all...
