“Amazing!”

I found BC via trip advisor. I have to admit, even with all of the 'excellent' reviews, I didn't think that this place would reaaaally be that great. BC totally exceeded our expectations in every way. From booking with Mel, assistance with taxi's and acclimating to the island with Christian's help, the AMAZING food, and most importantly, our accommodations. We stayed in one of the 1 bedroom bungalows - Zeni - and it was perfect! The bed? Best bed ever. We were right on the ocean, so we woke up and fell asleep to sea sounds. Full kitchen, which we took advantage of occasionally for breakfast & lunch.

Because BC is a small resort, we could go hours without seeing anyone if we wanted! When we went swimming/snorkeling off the palapa....it was just the two of us. We did head over to the west side a few times for snorkeling, beach walking, and eating, and it's very different over there. If you want constant people, clueless cruise ship ppl, piped in music, and ppl asking you every 5 minutes (no exaggeration) if you want a beach massage, your hair braided, a bracelet, or a conch shell - stay on the west side.

It's true that BC is nestled into a semi-industrial area - but we only heard a little bit of noise 2 of our 7 days and it in no way wrecked up our vacation in any way. It's a beautiful, super safe place. A total jem!

ps - be kind to the coral and purchase the cactus juice/natural bug products available in the gift shop, it totally works. We went 4 days, and just a few bites, before we purchased it. don't ruin the most beautiful coral in the western hemisphere with DEET!!

Room Tip: We loved Zeni - a one bedroom bungalow. Totally private and amazing in every way.

“Exceeded expectations”

Apart from a couple of days of rain my husband and I could not fault this little friendly resort.
We stayed in both the lofts on the main land and the beach bungalow on the cay opposite. They are brilliantly designed and very well equipped if you want to self cater; even down to a coffee grinder/maker which you can set on a timer!
We were all inclusive on food which was excellent (my least favourite being the buffet night which is the chef's night off; if you fancy a meal out at Gio's or Baso's pick this night) but even that was good. When I say excellent I mean top bistro/gastro standard.
The dive school staff are so enthusiastic you will not fail to enjoy the diving; they are also extremely professional and welcoming.
Please note though if you buy a dive package in advance (which we did and is worth doing so) then you still have to pay for equipment rental (bcd, regulator etc) and dive services which are perhaps half again.
The diving was fabulous for coral and sponges as well as the fish.
We stayed for 11 nights but could have spent longer! I would highly recommend this little jewel of a place. We met some great like minded people here too from El Salvador, Canada, Roatan itself, Venezuela & Mexico not just the USA

Room Tip: For soothing ocean sound try the beach bungalow

“Fabulous Resort, Great Staff, & Terrific Food”

We stayed at Barefoot Cay last week for an all-inclusive dive+food package. We had a loft studio above the dive shop and spa, overlooking the marina. From the moment we arrived, everything worked perfectly (the weather cooperated after day 3). The airport pick-up, the great welcome and tour by Mel and our first lunch got us right into the spirit of vacation after a long trip and early morning start. Despite the rain and wind the first days, we relaxed in our loft, strolled the cay, and relished the peace, quiet, and superb food. The dive shop staff are top notch and take no chances with safety. Every dive was well executed and enjoyable, no stress at all. I had never been so close to dive sites that we did our surface intervals back at the dock and people could get on and off the boat on a per/dive basis. In addition to the luxuries of dining at Barefoot Cay, I did enjoy a spa treatment with scrub, wrap, and massage package. That really was spectacular and refreshing. We signed up for a couples massage as a result, but in the end could not do it due to the one downside of the trip--jellyfish at the ocean's surface. On the snorkeling outings, my companion was massively stung by very small jellyfish, and had to buy a skin to get back in the water. If you like snorkeling, have some exposure protection and anti-histamines just in case. Throughout our staff, all of the staff were wonderfully friendly and helpful. I was constantly surprised at how they actually knew our names, but that is the beauty of a small, well-run establishment. And what good record-keeping. I never saw anyone taking down dive, snorkel, or boat data, and only rarely was I asked to sign for things, yet our bill was superbly detailed and accurate. I love a well-running machine that is only quietly humming in the background. This is truly an escape for those seeking quiet and relaxation. Even boisterous talking at dinner seemed out of place.

Room Tip: All of the rooms have a great view. We never got bug bites, we took garlic, but also b/c the lofts a...

“4.5 stars for Barefoot Cay”

Coming from California...the location is beautiful and safe. Water is warm at Christmas. We stayed in the 2 bedroom villa and it was a 5 star accommodation. The resort would be PERFECT if there was a sandy beach to play in, but swimming off the papala was fine and the pool was great. Bring Hunters Deet for the bugs and keep spraying...they were not as bad as we expected. The food was 6 stars, chef Doug rocks! We have stayed at Ritz Carlton’s and his food is 10 times better! The staff was friendly and helpful. We had a few issues when booking other extras like SPA, dolphins and catamaran -but issues were resolved quickly. The private catamaran we booked was (Arerlos-SP?) Ask for them they were fantastic. 50 % Americans and 50% Central Americans stay at the resort and most dive. We did not but EVERYONE said the diving and staff was AWESOME. We would recommend Barefoot Cayto our friends!

“Great family vacation for divers!”

We enjoyed a terrific week at Barefoot Cay just before Christmas. We were looking for relaxation and fabulous diving. We were not disappointed. My husband, two college age sons and I stayed in one of the villas on the cay. It was secluded but, very close to Barefoot Divers so little time was spent getting to and from our dives. Scott, Ginny and Christian were great guides to some very beautiful dive spots on the reef.
We also enjoyed the friendly staff on the cay and the wonderful food at every meal. I can't wait to go back.

Room Tip: The villas are very spacious with two bedrooms and a common room with a kitchen appointed with excel...
