“Good hotel at end of Rio Dulce”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 March 2011

Trip down Rio Dulce by boat was fantastic, and we got lucky with great sunny weather both ways. Scenic, tons of birdlife, really beautiful trip. Livingstone itself is interesting for a night, not a lot to do other than walk around, sit in cafes or in a restaurant, etc. Hotel has great pool and good terrace for drinks over the water. Rooms are clean and comfortable - try to get one with view over the sea. A couple of interesting restaurants in town for seafood.

“All Round Good Experience”

We like the idea of travelling to a town not accessible by road, and loved the boat trip down the Rio Dulce, very pretty scenery and so many birds. We only stayed one night in Villa Caribe but found it ideal for us. Very convenient location with its own dock at the bottom of the garden, and right in the centre of the laid back town. The bedroom was light, bright and white, with hanging lights made out of conch shells, a basin in the bedroom, rather basic shower room with water which took too long to run hot and nowhere to hang towels. Private terrace to sit out and beautiful view through palm trees to the sea - we could see sun rise from the bed! We ate dinner at a restaurant in town so can't comment on the food, but found breakfast to be good.

“Good Place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 February 2011

Decent enough place. Slightly pricey. Good location. Livingston itself is a dump.

“SEEMS VERY GOOD BUT WITH RAIN...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2011

Our trip to Livingston was a mistake, once was rainning too much. The 47km from Castillo San Filipe to Livingston with rain seems longuer and in the next day to do the same again with rain was too much. In fact we don´t know if the Rio Dulce is beautiful or not. About the hotel, they gave us a nice bungalow well located and we beleive with a nice view, but as was raining we asked to change for a room in the main building also with a nice view but where the hot water arrived faster. So the hotel seems very good but you must see the weather first!

“The worlds most beautiful pool!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2010

We absolutely loved the 5 days we stayed in Livingston. We arrived during low season and were offered one of the Casitas (junior suites) for $65 usd a night including breakfast. The room was spotless and new and had air conditioning, a tv and a private patio overlooking the Caribbean and pool... and yes this isn’t just any pool, it’s the largest hotel pool that we have ever seen!
The pool was the highlight of the resort since there really aren’t a lot of other places to swim in Livingston. The pool has three levels of depths including a shallow area for sunbathing. There is a huge waterfall that tumbles over rocks into the pool which makes for both a soothing relaxing sound and a great place to take photos. You can get pool side service from the restaurant if you let them know that you want it. The hotel gives you beach towels to lay out in the lounge chairs under the coconut trees (watch out for falling coconuts!)
The hotel restaurant is huge and offers an amazing view of the River Dulce and The Caribbean. Free WiFi is available from the palapa top restaurant. The hotel participates in a service training program in which students learn guest services. It is a great program that shows that this country is preparing for future tourism.
A variety of lower priced room without air conditioning are also available.
