I am truly gobsmacked by some of the reviews I have read. It is clear that what is comfortable and good to a Backpacker in his 20s or 30s is not the same as defined by the more mature professional traveller looking to travel comfortably. I missed out on the backpacking when I was young. Now at the "ensuite" stage of my life when I can and do want to travel to places that don't involve lying on beach for two weeks, I want to do it comfortably if not luxuriously. We arrived at this hotel in the middle of an Intrepid comfort tour through Mexico, Guatamala and Belize. The room we were shown to had wires coming out of the top of the shower (a serious H&S hazzard) and the bathroom stank of mould. After finding a couple of dead cockroaches we decided not to stay and moved to a clean, newly refurbished posada across the road at a lot less than the list price of this hotel.

This is the 2nd time we've stayed at the Hotel Kakchiquel in Panajachel, Guatemala. We stayed in a large room on the 2nd floor. The bedrooms were comfortable and the bathroom clean with plenty of hot water. There was a small refrigerator in the room that kept things cold but the noise of the compressor going off and on at night was too noisy. Other than that we had a quiet night's sleep all four nights.

The location is great, on the lake end of the main Santander thoroughfare. There is free internet in the lobby. Although the hotel clerks didn't speak much English (and we didn't speak much Spanish), they were always helpful.

I think this hotel was pretty good. Centrally located on the main street in Pana. Breakfast was not the greatest but it was ok. I thought the staff could have done a better job of helping ...like a car back to Guatemala city which they couldnt help arrange. 2 computers that are internet ready are available. The rooms have no safes which is a problem if you want to put your passports away etc.There is a pretty good coffee place down the street that makes delicious cappuchinos and coffee. The beach is only 2 blocks away. They are doing construction next door, though, and they start up at 7 am so we were up pretty early due to that.

Loved this hotel. Best location, right on the main street 2 blks from the Lake. The staff goes out of their way to give excellent customer service. Super clean rooms, hot water, and very reasonable rates. They have a small pool, hot tub, and computers with free internet. They also have free wireless internet. This hotel has it all. This is the thrid time we have stayed there. Very good security too. Rooms are decorated with nice local bedspreads. They have cable TV and free bottled water. Great value without losing the comforts most people want. There are 2 hotels across the street from each other. Book early if you want rooms on the weekend. This hotel fills up. It is a favorite with groups since it has a large meeting room. It also has an underground parking garage.
