We had an early flight home out of Guatemala City so we decided we needed to stay close to the airport. I hadn't done any research on places in the city and had to rely on my Lonely Planet guidebook that had listed this place as 'mid-range'. I'd called a couple of nights before to reserve a double room. We were tired after weeks of travel and I made the mistake of paying first before seeing the room. It was located right off the 'lobby' with a large plastic yellow opaque window in the separating wall. The lobby light came right into the room. We heard each guest who came in all night. The guidebook listed that the room had fans and reading lamps. Neither were in the room.
There was a strange damp odor in the room even with an air freshener hanging in the bathroom. The sheets also had the dank odor. I asked for another room and was told this was their only double. We didn't even feel comfortable enough to sleep under the covers so we both slept all night fully-clothed on top of the sheets. Avoid this place!
