Located downtown, this is not what I expected from the Holiday Inns I've stayed in the US. This property is across from the Westin, which is also run by the same owners. Check in was a little slow, as many outside US hotels require much more paperwork! The lobby was nice and well-serviced. Everyone from the parking attendants to the bartender was well-dressed and friendly. There is a good view of the volcano on a clear day (be sure and ask for a room on that side). I had a non-smoking room on the corner by the elevator; a little noisy when the elevator would 'ring' the floor. The walls in my room were very thin, and I could hear the room next door; but otherwise, the hotel was quiet. This was a full-service hotel...room service, lobby bar, airport shuttle!
The room decor was no-frills; in fact, the furniture reminded me of a Holiday Inn! The paintings on the wall seems There was a flat screen TV with good channel selection and coffee maker (only one pack of coffe though). Nice bathroom with marble tile; no plumbing issues...and best of all, a phone in the bathroom!
The free breakfast buffet was good. My only complaint was that they closed the bar for an entire day because of a holiday on a Thursday. However, the bar promptly opened at 7AM the next day! Overall, I was pleased, and would stay there again, but would like to try the Westin next time. And if you go to either hotel, be sure and visit the KACAO restaurant across the street for an authentic Guatemalan experience!
Room Tip: Dont stay next to elevator, and get room viewing volcano
