“An absolutely charming surprise!”

When we got into town, a storm was brewing. The place looked a little sketchy on the outside, but we had good reviews, so we went inside. The power had just gone off, but we were just in time for a wonderful thunderstorm on our safe little deck overlooking the town. The hosts were absolutely charming - welcomed us with wood for our fireplace, candles for the night, and freshly-ground peanut butter. By the time the lights came on, we were sound asleep and didn't even miss them. What a great little find this was! And a 5-minute walk to the market.

“It has charm, and is affordable”

We stayed one night prior to the Sunday market, in order to be in town as it set up for the market. This hotel is a cheaper alternative to the Mayan Inn or Hotel San Tomas, the two tourist-bus hotels in town, both of which seemed nice. We saw a few rooms at Posada El Arco and each had character, meaning they did not have the feel of a chain hotel. The management was very cordial and we enjoyed our stay. Our room had a fireplace and it was worth the little extra to have a roaring fire on a February night in the mountains. The location is an easy walk to the market. One advantage to having a room (which came with a 2:00 checkout) is that we could go back to the room for a short breather from the crowds and then return to the market refreshed.

“very friendly, good location in Chichi”

Pedro is a very friendly & gregarious host, who speaks excellent English, having lived in the U.S. for several years. Ask him to show you his home-made rooftop solar thermal water heater and photovoltaic panels... a hobby of his. The Posada itself is clean, but fairly basic, more like someone's home than a business. There's a fireplace in room 8 if you get cold (firewood Q35 extra), but with an extra blanket I was fine. Very close to the market and restaurants. No Internet, but Los Cofrades Restaurant has WiFi for patrons.

“Perfect place for us but perhaps not for luxury lovers”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 December 2009

This was one of the best places we have ever stayed in a great deal of travel. We stayed for 2.5 weeks while teaching English in a mountain community. Rooms were very clean, large and comfortable--though rustic in decor and furniture. We had a room with a fireplace and balcony and perhaps some others are not so nice. The bathroom, which I care a lot more about than fancy furniture was clean and as another reviewer said accepted toilet paper and had unlimited hot water at all times--a real rarity for non-luxury hotels. We were offered breakfast at a laughably small price and agreed. It was the best food we had in Guatemala and enough protein in that one meal so that, I, a vegetarian, did not worry about getting more all day. Pedro, the owner, spent decades in the US, speaks fluent English and knows what tourists require for comfort if not luxury.
He also knows everything and everyone in Chichi and is quick to offer contacts, advice and help. For a fee he will even drive you to Guatemala City in his Mercedes van. We would come home in the afternoon to find him feeding milk and snacks to local shoeshine boys who certainly looked undernourished. Guatemala is not famous for security and the fact that Pedro gives no one a key but always has someone (usually a family member) at home to answer the securely locked door is a benefit not a drawback -- we felt safe leaving our valuables there all day.

“Great place, its like staying in a guest house not a hotel. Amazing gardens!”

I took a group of ten on a mission trip to Chichi. The pastor at the church made the arrangements for our group. It is spacious and decorated in Mayan art and decor.
Its very quiet and located near the Market. Pedro and his family were wonderful hosts. He speaks English so he was very helpful. The garden and courtyard were amazing! The plants and flowers he grew were unreal! I have never seem so many hummingbirds. Its like staying in a huge house as a guest. We rented the entire place for our group and felt right at home. I will return again in Feb and Sept 10 and I will stay here from now on when I travel each year to Chichi/
