This was one of the best places we have ever stayed in a great deal of travel. We stayed for 2.5 weeks while teaching English in a mountain community. Rooms were very clean, large and comfortable--though rustic in decor and furniture. We had a room with a fireplace and balcony and perhaps some others are not so nice. The bathroom, which I care a lot more about than fancy furniture was clean and as another reviewer said accepted toilet paper and had unlimited hot water at all times--a real rarity for non-luxury hotels. We were offered breakfast at a laughably small price and agreed. It was the best food we had in Guatemala and enough protein in that one meal so that, I, a vegetarian, did not worry about getting more all day. Pedro, the owner, spent decades in the US, speaks fluent English and knows what tourists require for comfort if not luxury.
He also knows everything and everyone in Chichi and is quick to offer contacts, advice and help. For a fee he will even drive you to Guatemala City in his Mercedes van. We would come home in the afternoon to find him feeding milk and snacks to local shoeshine boys who certainly looked undernourished. Guatemala is not famous for security and the fact that Pedro gives no one a key but always has someone (usually a family member) at home to answer the securely locked door is a benefit not a drawback -- we felt safe leaving our valuables there all day.
