We were totally impressed and amazed during our stay at this B&B...especially since this was our first time experiencing a B&B. We chose this B&B because it had package deals catered to the purpose(s) of one's visit(s). The Romantic Interlude package was just what the doctor ordered for my wife and I with a bouquet of pink roses (ironically matching the Roslyn Room in which we stayed), Lindor Chocolates, and a bottle of Champagne (by choice).
With this package, we were served a freshly cooked breakfast each morning at our desired time, preceded by a serving of mixed fruit topped with strawberry yogurt, which was not too heavy but just enough to hold you throughout the day. Did I mention that the breakfast was by candlelight?! Oh, and the dining room decor was beautiful. The breakfast items I am glad did not change from day to day were the fresh fruit and the slab bacon and link sausage...a true 'down-home' country and southern delight.
Our room was massive and beautifully decorated. The king size bed had the best linens that I have ever slept on...almost like sleeping on a cloud. I loved the natural light that came into our room during the day, and the street noise was never a problem throughout the night. The bathroom (though a bit tight for taking showers) suited our needs. There is no microwave or small cooler/refrigerator in the room(s) for your own personal use. So, if you have a 'to go' plate from a restaurant or your own beverages to keep cool, you may want to ask the innkeepers about available amenities for reheating your food. Hint: If you cannot find the ironing board in your room, look under the bed.
Being this was our first B&B experience, we were comforted with the level of privacy we had. I only met Angela Nolan once shortly after our check-in; but, both her and Chuck were such pleasant hosts. We met a few one nighters during our stay; but what topped it off was our last breakfast with another couple from Wisconsin. The conversations we had along with Chuck is something you may very rarely experience at a typical hotel.
My suggestion to those planning to visit the 1906 is to not be moved by outward appearances. What I mean is that it is an old house (though very beautiful) which shows its age, but is very well maintained in my opinion. The grounds and gardens are somewhat nice...could use some work; but again, pretty well maintained. Nonetheless the atmosphere and our experience at this B&B is one we will remember for a lifetime.
