Upon arrival we were informed that our reservation had been given to someone else. We were put into two small rooms, splitting up our party. The rooms were filthy. One of the pull out couches contained a roach. The ceiling fans were coated with dust and warped. The pictures online were not representative of our rooms. The water didn't work in the kitchen sink in one room and the showers smelled like sewage. There is no housekeeping service. Towels were discolored and crunchy and no soap or extra rolls of toilet paper in the rooms. The internet is cut off each evening when the owner goes to bed (around 8 p.m.) The road to the resort was two and one-half miles of very bad road. Must have 4 wheel drive to navigate and even then it was difficult during rain. The shopkeeper a short distance down the dirt path in the village was very nice and helpful. He had common toiletries and snacks. This resort is about 8 miles from Punta Gorda. Not much in the way of things to do within a short distance. The pool would be great if the algae and black mold were scrubbed away. A large group of folks were staying there at the same time and were up at 6 a.m. dragging furniture around overhead to clean their floor each morning.The tours listed consist of driving the village "guide" in your car for $40 and lunch.

I took a group of high school business students to Belize and stayed at Cuxlin Ha. The catered the tours and experiences to fit our goals. We wanted to learn how business and free enterprise can work to improve conditions in third world countries. The owners of Cuxlin Ha arranged meetings with business people in Punta Gorda. We met several small entreprenuers including those in Cuxlin Ha who have developed their own cooperative store. The families of Cuxlin Ha opened their village to us for a week. My students made friends with the children of the village. They played together and spent some time comparing experiences in America with those in Belize. It was the experience of a lifetime for these kids. I can't imagine another resort working so hard to make sure our needs were met, both in terms of accomodations and experiences. I definitely plan to take this trip again.
