The hotel is an ugly concrete lump completely out of keeping with the local environment. It barely bore a resemblance to the photographs on the website. Rooms were badly kept and after a look we simply headed off the other way. The Maya people in the lodge's 'cultural Maya village' looked depressed and were very unfriendly. We later found out from local people in Punta Gorda town that they have been duped into selling off their land on a lease to the hotel thinking it would bring them money on an ecotourism scheme, but it has only brought a new form of colonialism through a timeshare sell-off and prospective golf resort. What a sad and unpleasant place. Steer well clear.
