“Return Trip to Chan Chich”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2011

Last year we visited Chan Chich and fell in love with the place, the people, the food, and of course, the birds and animals. We could not wait to return and in early Feb. we did. While the October hurricane caused some damage to the jungle, the monkeys, and the birds all seem to be adapting and coming back. It did not diminish our enjoyment. This year we took a half day trip to Gallon Jug farm ( where lots of the fresh food for the lodge is grown) and saw many new birds there. Everyone is just so friendly and helpful and we saw some of the same staff from last year. Not a single insect bite the whole time. Imagine sitting on the deck of your cabana and having at least four different types of hummingbirds flying within inches of you and the howlers and spider monkeys overhead. The quiet is amazing. Within two days of returning home we have signed up for 2012 and our third visit. Highly recommend this lodge.

“Beautiful Wildlife Haven”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2011

This is a marvellous lodge, far from the madding crowd.
The accommodation is lovely and you get that 'deep in the rainforest feeling'
Despite it's remoteness, the food is outstanding and the staff very friendly.

There are several walks you can go on without the need for for a guide. However, if you are an unexperienced bird / wildlife spotter like us, you will miss a far amount.

A hurricane last October caused a fair amount of destruction to trees and as a result, the bird and animal life was disappointing. Very few Parrots, Toucons or other large birds to be seen.
We did not really expect to see a Jaguar and didn't. The only other creature of note seen was a Kinkadue and that was with experienced guides.

The pool, although a little on the cool side for me is superb.

If we went back to Belize would be go to Chan Chich again? YES YES YES.

“A truly unique retreat in an idylic setting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2011

Our family, three couples, went to Chan Chich for three days and three nights, and we had a really wonderful time. I have been on many different types of vacations, and we all found Chan Chich to be very unique and special. The lodge is located within a rainforest preserve on ancient mayan grounds, and its a really stunning area. You feel completely removed from it all. And near the lodge is an incredible farm with rolling hills filled with horses, cows and deer that come to graze. It looks like paradise. When we first got there I was a little worried it might be too quiet and too relaxed, but soon found that there were more activities and more things we wanted to do then we had time for. We went canoeing on a nearby lake near sunset and we were all in awe of how peaceful and beautiful the area is. We also went horseback riding around the farms orchards, went for guided walks through the rainforest tracking down monkeys, and birds and all kinds of animals, and a night time drive. The staff were genuinely warm and friendly. They all seemed to enjoy being a part of the lodge and in a tight community. The food was delicious, the rooms were perfectly decorated, and the hot tub at night under the stars is not to be missed, I can't say enough about this place. Thanks Chan Chich for a great vacation.

“Simply paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2011

This was our second trip-first was 15 years ago. Chan Chich is simply the most relaxing, comfortable retreat that I can imagine. Both times we were with a guided bird tour but the local resort guides added so much to the experience with their knowledge of habitat etc that they are indispensable. We saw 190 different types of birds. The hurricane in late Oct had knocked down some of the fruiting trees so there were not as many parrots and trogons and no toucans. All of the staff were wonderful, courteous and friendly. As others have said the accommodations and food are top notch. The pool was not there before so we were interested to see how they added it without distracting from the atmosphere-very nice job
and a great pool-cool and relaxing. Minor bug issues late Dec & early Jan. The calm, peace and enjoyment of being in nature are restorative and were much needed. I dearly hope that this lovely corner of the world will be preserved as is for a long time, not just for visitors like us, but for the local people who clearly love it so dearly.

This was our second trip to Chan Chich and we plan to continue returning. The first trip was in July 2007 when I was 6 months pregnant. It was our baby moon and it has zero to no malaria risk so we headed there. The lodge, staff and trip were so amazing and they welcomed us to come back after our son was born. This trip we took in October 2010. Literally had the place to ourselves. Traveled with a 3 year old son. The lodge and staff truly are world class. Not to mention the meals. Divine. What a total treat from start to finish. Worth every penny. Everyone was so kind and welcoming and we had to make no apologizes for this half naked three year old who was running around. We walked the trails for hours every day. Then retreated to the huge screened in pool. It did not rain once during the day, to our surprise our rubber boots went unused. Went out on horse back two days. Howler Monkeys, Spider monkeys, tarantulas...it's a real jungle. Not to mention all the species of birds. From Seattle, 4 hour flight to Houston than 2.5 hours to Belize....and you are literally a world away. Do not miss an opportunity to go to this Lodge, if its your kind of vacation, you won't be sorry!
