This was a return trip for us and we never return. Chan Chich is the exception. Relaxing, fantastic birding, trails, photo-ops, guides, staff, and accomodations. I want my own cabana! Last year we stayed during February; this year in March. Both years were excellent. The hurricane seemed to have affected the hummingbird numbers as we saw less this year than last, but this may be due to the differences in when the trees are in flower or buds that may have been destroyed. Saw a dozen or more toucans on trees that were in fruit. Loved the trails and hiked all of them except Sac Be (is a third trip in order??). Did not see the vaunted cats, but then again, I am a dog lover and the cats probably can figure that out. Plenty of other mammals were observed. Love, love, love this place and the staff are impecable.

My mother had gone to Chan Chich in "95 and had a great time birding . We are not birders but this place is so great it didn't matter . The staff attends to your every need and everybody is super nice and friendly that you almost feel like part of the family .We stayed in the Villa which was way beond what were expecting ! The local wildlife and the side trips and trails where just fantastic . Before we had even left my wife and daughter and son-in-law were already trying to figure out when we can get back to this magical place !

I was expecting great service from Chan Chich because of everything I have heard and their recent award by Conde Nast for Best Jungle Lodge in Central American & Mexico but was blown away by how professional and generous they were with our recent need to reschedule our vacation. It is so refreshing to be treating so wonderfully - we cannot wait for our visit!

Last year we visited Chan Chich and fell in love with the place, the people, the food, and of course, the birds and animals. We could not wait to return and in early Feb. we did. While the October hurricane caused some damage to the jungle, the monkeys, and the birds all seem to be adapting and coming back. It did not diminish our enjoyment. This year we took a half day trip to Gallon Jug farm ( where lots of the fresh food for the lodge is grown) and saw many new birds there. Everyone is just so friendly and helpful and we saw some of the same staff from last year. Not a single insect bite the whole time. Imagine sitting on the deck of your cabana and having at least four different types of hummingbirds flying within inches of you and the howlers and spider monkeys overhead. The quiet is amazing. Within two days of returning home we have signed up for 2012 and our third visit. Highly recommend this lodge.
