“Amazing place to stay....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

My husband and I spent 4 days at Lananai Outpost Lodge on our honeymoon. The first of 3 places we visited, the lodge was an amazing start to a fantastic trip. The service, accommodation and tours were first class. The home cooked 3 course breakfasts, lunches and dinners served by the lodge were fantastic and sustained us through the busy activities which the lodge offers. All activities were lead by enthusiastic and professional tour guides who were obviously passionate and highly knowledgeable about the local area and the wildlife and culture. We did all of the tours which are included in the price of the stay plus had a dinner out on the pontoon in the middle of the river which was a highlight. The stars are unbelievable.

We stayed in Cabana 6 which is situated equidistant between the main dining room and the dock. The beds were comfortable and the shower always had hot water. The only issue we had was with mosquitoes, we were there in December and I was bitten quite a lot. We probably weren't prepared enough for this, but that was our fault. Mosquito nets in the bedrooms may have been advantageous.

An altogether fantastic place to stay, highly recommended.

“Great Jungle experience - Shame we didn't see a cat!”

We are experienced travellers having stayed in many safari and rainforest lodges. Lamanai is quite simple but it was perfect for our needs. The staff were very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful and even our complicated dietary requirements were no problem for them.
My lodge had aircon and a fan but my children's lodge only had a fan. I have been told by the owner that the lodges are being updated and will have A/C very soon.
I did get bitten regularly by the mosquitos - no spray or other deterrent stopped them. We were taking anti-malarial tablets as recommended by our doctor but most of the American tourists were taking nothing.
The proximity to the Lamanai ruins (20 mins walk) was one of the major draws for me and we went there before any tourists arrived and had the place completely to ourselves -that was amazing!
The night tour to catch a crocodile was fun. We went on an airboat like the ones used in the Everglades which thrilled the kids but we were very disappointed when the crocodile that we caught was not more than 45cm long - we laughed so much and asked if we could continue our search but were told that as we had caught a croc it was time to go home. My kids liked the fact that it was a baby and we could stroke it and play with it but I would have liked to catch a big one.
Our only disappointment was the lack of mammels that we saw - I know that it is nearly impossible to see a Jaguar or a Puma but the only mammels that we saw were Howler monkeys - from a distance and a few Agutis (also from a distance). I suppose that going on Safaris regularly has spoiled us as we are used to seeing large animals.
The highlight for me was the two night boat trips and the night walk to the Spanish Church. Look up at the stars. If you live in a city you will be overwhelmed by the millions of stars you can see when there is no light pollution. I would definately recommend this lodge despite the lack of mammels we all had a great time.

“Gorgeous sunrise, howler monkeys and indulgent meals”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011

We spent two nights at the lodge in early December 2011. The rooms were simple and a little dusty/musty, but had all the necessities: comfy beds, decent shower, in-room fridge (great for keeping cold drinks/beer from town). We did not get a river view, but I hear that's something to strive for. Anyone seeking privacy would be wise to state that upfront as I understand some of the rooms are more private than others - it didn't bother us at all, but we were up close and personal with our neighbors. That said you will no spend much time in your room, so they are more than adequate.
The real attractions here are the river, the restaurant and the ruins. The river is amazing, just catching the sunrise or sunset from the dock is an event in and of itself. A nighttime spotlight tour is a must. We saw lots of wild life and it was magical to be on the river at night. The food is wonderful. It's not especially belizian (pork chops with potatoes, lobster fritters, shrimp coconut curry, tortilla soup, key lime pie and pumpkin pie), but it's a treat. We only had comparable food at another jungle lodge and at one restaurant on Caye Caulker. Then there are the ruins! We walked in on our own - about a 15 minute walk from the lodge. We've seen a number of ruins on this and past trips, so we were excited to explore on our own, but we heard others rave about their guide from the lodge. We had an amazing time wandering around and climbing the ruins. The proximity to the lodge is a wonderful plus.
All the service at the lodge was impecable and we would recommend it enthusiastically.

“We had a wonderful stay at the lodge, the food was the amazing, the setting was great and the service was top notch.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 December 2011

I'm a huge fan of this lodge. Its walking distance to lamani ruins and is right along the river. The ruins were great and we saw plenty of Iguanas, Howler monkeys, and lots and lots of birds. Face temple was really nice and high temple was a little scarry going up well worth it when you made it to the top. The food is amazing here and the service was great as well. The room we stayed in had a attached room so you could here the people next to you. We also got an early morning wake up call from the howler monkeys at six in the morning, I kept trying to hit the snooze button but for some reason they would not stop for about 45 minutes. I have been to many Mayan ruins and lamani is right on the top of my list, so if you get a chance this is a very nice place to stay.
