“Perfect in every aspect, and howler monkeys on the porch!”

I don't want to sound like an echo to all the other posts, so while I will say that everything from service to value to the cabins to the tours to the food was some of the best I've ever seen and experienced, I'll try to explain the added benefits that made the Lamanai Outpost Lodge better than excellent. It went far beyond having howler monkeys so close to me on the porch that I actually backed up to take them all in.

The first thing that really made my day was how it took half the time that everyone said it would take to get there, and that the road was fine, albeit not well marked, at all, with any good signs, but I guess that's better for the landscape anyways. I was told by many that it could take up to 2 hours, and that I'd be sore if I drove there. I guess things have changed since they've driven there because after 45 minutes, ok 55 because I stopped and gave someone a jump start, and a fun drive through a Mennonite community that felt like rural America, I was there.

Since it was not high season, they were running a special, and it was more than worth it. I was greeted with a smile, and shown to the cabin. It had shared walls with cabins on both sides, but there wasn't any noise issue due to the hard wood and great construction. What a cabin it was! There was even a little fridge to keep snacks and drinks cool in. There was a nice hammock outside on the porch too.

The food was wonderful, all the courses. It was also presented with zest, and the staff really did their job well. They went above and beyond what I expected.

I took advantage of the free canoes, the night walk, and the ruin tour, and spent a lot of time swimming and diving from the dock. The couple staying next door, did the Savannah Birding tour, and ended up helping to free up a Hicatee turtle that was in distress, so they brought the turtle back - the lodge works with those that monitor the shrinking Hicatee population, so they band them, take care of them, and then release them back into the wild - and it laid an egg on the trip back. How neat is that? The same couple really wanted to see jaguar tracks while on a different tour, so their guide went out the day before, found some, and made their trip.

The tour to the ruins was great, and there were only 3 of us, so it was really personalized. I was told that Raul was a great guide, and he did not disappoint. Definitely do the Lamanai ruins tour.

My stay was magical, and I can't wait to return to Lamanai Outpost Lodge with the family.

“Wonderful but avoid in wet season”

We stayed one night during a cultural trip to Belize. The accommodation is excellent as is the food. The people are lovely and there is a well stocked shop and a lending library. The only downside is the viciousness of mosquitoes during the rainy season. They bite through clothes and insect repellent and there are a lot of them. The bedrooms are free of them and have air-conditioning & mosquito nets. The guides are excellent. We visited the Mayan ruins, we did the night boat spotlight safari where we spotted owls, birds, crocodiles, providence flowers and chased bats and saw other things I have forgotten. It was great fun! We also did the dawn nature walk with a spotting scope (Svarovski) which the guide brought with him. (It belongs to the lodge) This made it very easy to see the birds and animals. We had the same guide for all three trips and he was excellent. We were there exactly 24 hours and saw so much.

Room Tip: The cabanas are in pairs, the facilities are at the top of the site; the river is down below. There...

“A howling good time”

The reason you go to Lamanai Outpost is location, but then you get there and you realize there is so many more reasons to go there. The lodge is literally set in the middle of the jungle, one can expect to see howler monkeys and salamanders right outside your cabana. We stayed for 4 days and did multiple tours, but 3 would be ideal. We had the same guide for most of our tours. We were able to learn about the various tours but also about Belizean life. Our tours included a short walk to Lamanai Ruins, the spotlight safari which is a boat ride @ night with a spotlight to see various animals & a dawn tour of local wildlife. We also had the opportunity to meet some local women and learn about how they cook. It was an AMAZING way to start out vacation in Belize. Your meals are included and keep in mind if you want half portions you can request them.

“Paradise”

This was one of the most incredible vacation experiences we have ever had. No, it does not have all the thrills of a 5-star hotel, but if you are even considering vacationing in the Belizean jungle, then I would assume that is not your main concern. The resort is nestled in the heart of the jungle, feet from the New River. Our driver, Calvin, was punctually waiting for us when we arrived at BZE. He was more than accommodating and sincerely friendly during our short drive from the airport to the river dock. Once there, we were greeted by Raul, our riverboat Captain and tour guide for our entire stay. The boat ride down the river was the most enjoyable and educational hotel transfer I have ever encountered. The room was more than sufficient. Plenty of space and plenty of amenities for a jungle-hut-escape. All of the meals were delicious, far exceeding any expectations. All of the activities that we embarked on were fantastic, but the Crocodile Encounter was the highlight of trip. It is well worth the upgrade. I cannot begin to say enough about the level of professionalism and customer service of the entire staff. Raul, in particular, went above and beyond to make the experience one to remember. The owner of the resort has a real asset in Raul. The trip would not have been the same without him. I would emphatically recommend Lamanai Outpost to anyone contemplating a vacation in Belize.

“Lamanai Outpost in one word... AMAZING”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2011

We decided to end our honeymoon at the Lamanai Outpost. In only 1 word it is AMAZING. I have to start by saying Ellen Howells, the lady who helped book our stay at Lamanai Outpost was amazing and incredibly helpful. As far as I know she is the one to contact if you would like to stay at the Outpost. So with that I begin... We were on Ambergris Caye prior to our stay at Lamanai. When we arrived at the airport from Ambergris, we were met by Calvin who had a sign with our name so we would not get lost. He drove us 45 minutes by van out to Orange Walk. He was especially friendly and told us some stories and shared a little of the Belizean culture with us as we went along. In Orange Walk, we left the van and Calvin and hopped into a boat with Mauricio that would take us up the river. It was a short ride, only 70 minutes long! It was a bit of a ride, it rained and was warm, but I wouldn't trade it for anything. Mauricio, during the trip, pulled over and showed us some wildlife and plants of the area that he has come to know growing up in the area. When we finally arrived to the Outpost, you could barely see that it was there as it was literally built into the jungle. It was quite a site to see. We were met by Sonia who was very nice and led us to our room then showed us around the Outpost before finally leading us to the dining room where lunch awaited us. After lunch and a long day of travel we took a nap. I only mention this as we were awakened by a loud and unintelligible sound that I first thought was a jaguar or an air raid siren. Turns out it was a troop of howler monkeys! They were extremely loud but amazing at the same time. We stayed 2 nights so we were given 4 activities to do. We chose the Spotlight Safari, the Lamanai Ruins tour, the Sunrise Canoe trip and the Sunset Cruise. The Spotlight Safari was incredible as Mauricio took us out on a flat bottom boat and showed us at least 10 different animals and several types of plants and flowers. This tour occurred at 8pm when it was pitch dark. It was an amazing tour and one I would do again! The Lamanai Ruins tour was incredible. I felt like I was in an Indiana Jones movie as the temples just jumped out of the jungle and the howler monkeys were stirring up a raucous. Raul led this trip and he was incredibly informative and a great guy all around. The Sunrise Canoe trip was awesome as we were awake early enough to see the sun rise and see how peaceful it was on the lagoon with only us out there in canoes. This tour was led by both Ruben and Raul. The Sunset Cruise was a great way for us to end our time at Lamanai Outpost. Raul took us out on the lagoon, showed us a few animals but just let us relax and we got to know him fairly well that day, as he led all our activities that day. The food at Lamanai is so delicious and amazing. It all tastes fresh, homemade and created with a little love. The rooms were a nice size and well decorated. I would recommend bug spray to anyone going there as they are everywhere, but that is a small price to pay for paradise in the jungle. The staff was always very friendly and they even made coffee and muffins at 0530 in the morning when we were the only guests going on the sunrise canoe trip. Overall, I could go on and on and on, but I still wouldn't do justice to how amazing Lamanai Outpost is. Go there, enjoy your time and come back with memories for a lifetime!

Room Tip: Rooms are not Air Conditioned but it is still nice at night.
