“Lamanai Outpost in one word... AMAZING”
We decided to end our honeymoon at the Lamanai Outpost. In only 1 word it is AMAZING. I have to start by saying Ellen Howells, the lady who helped book our stay at Lamanai Outpost was amazing and incredibly helpful. As far as I know she is the one to contact if you would like to stay at the Outpost. So with that I begin... We were on Ambergris Caye prior to our stay at Lamanai. When we arrived at the airport from Ambergris, we were met by Calvin who had a sign with our name so we would not get lost. He drove us 45 minutes by van out to Orange Walk. He was especially friendly and told us some stories and shared a little of the Belizean culture with us as we went along. In Orange Walk, we left the van and Calvin and hopped into a boat with Mauricio that would take us up the river. It was a short ride, only 70 minutes long! It was a bit of a ride, it rained and was warm, but I wouldn't trade it for anything. Mauricio, during the trip, pulled over and showed us some wildlife and plants of the area that he has come to know growing up in the area. When we finally arrived to the Outpost, you could barely see that it was there as it was literally built into the jungle. It was quite a site to see. We were met by Sonia who was very nice and led us to our room then showed us around the Outpost before finally leading us to the dining room where lunch awaited us. After lunch and a long day of travel we took a nap. I only mention this as we were awakened by a loud and unintelligible sound that I first thought was a jaguar or an air raid siren. Turns out it was a troop of howler monkeys! They were extremely loud but amazing at the same time. We stayed 2 nights so we were given 4 activities to do. We chose the Spotlight Safari, the Lamanai Ruins tour, the Sunrise Canoe trip and the Sunset Cruise. The Spotlight Safari was incredible as Mauricio took us out on a flat bottom boat and showed us at least 10 different animals and several types of plants and flowers. This tour occurred at 8pm when it was pitch dark. It was an amazing tour and one I would do again! The Lamanai Ruins tour was incredible. I felt like I was in an Indiana Jones movie as the temples just jumped out of the jungle and the howler monkeys were stirring up a raucous. Raul led this trip and he was incredibly informative and a great guy all around. The Sunrise Canoe trip was awesome as we were awake early enough to see the sun rise and see how peaceful it was on the lagoon with only us out there in canoes. This tour was led by both Ruben and Raul. The Sunset Cruise was a great way for us to end our time at Lamanai Outpost. Raul took us out on the lagoon, showed us a few animals but just let us relax and we got to know him fairly well that day, as he led all our activities that day. The food at Lamanai is so delicious and amazing. It all tastes fresh, homemade and created with a little love. The rooms were a nice size and well decorated. I would recommend bug spray to anyone going there as they are everywhere, but that is a small price to pay for paradise in the jungle. The staff was always very friendly and they even made coffee and muffins at 0530 in the morning when we were the only guests going on the sunrise canoe trip. Overall, I could go on and on and on, but I still wouldn't do justice to how amazing Lamanai Outpost is. Go there, enjoy your time and come back with memories for a lifetime!
Room Tip: Rooms are not Air Conditioned but it is still nice at night.
