We stayed 5 nights at South Waters Resort in March '06 in a seaside Cabana. Ok, if you are looking for private, quaint, simple accomodation and not too expensive. Ask for Cabana 1 or 4, as 2 and 3 are close to the Crow's Nest and people talking late into the evening might keep you awake if you are a light sleeper. The wicker furniture, under the beds, kitchenette and shelving definitely need a good cleaning to remove old dust and finger prints, etc., otherwise the cabanas are cleaned every day, fresh sheets, etc. We stayed in Cabana 3 the first night and had trouble sleeping due to security lights that are on all night, ants and bugs, and late night talking at the bar, it was most inpleasant. Moved to Cabana 4, a bit quieter, however there's a mango tree above the Cabana and every once in a while, a loud crash on the roof would wake us up. The up side is that most mornings we were able to harvest some fresh mangos for breakfast. Rooms have screens, but there are many holes so not too effective. If you are squeemish about ants and the odd beetle bug and like super clean accomodation, you might not be comfortable here. We viewed Dianni's Guesthouse, one minute walk down the beach and found the rooms to be spotless and looked very comfy, but don't have the view or ambiance of the Cabanas. However, we would have switched if available in order to get a good nights sleep. Dianni's has a great little outdoor cafe serving breakfast and lunch at a good price and we ate there most mornings. Both South Waters and Dianni's are located beside the Moorings Charters and just steps from some of the best restaurants in Placencia our favourties being Wendy's for fresh fish (when no one else had any because the big resorts buy it all and leave none for the locals) and The Galley for the BEST pizza in town. Do not miss the ice cream at Tutti Fruiti.
