Staying at Whipray Caye and having the honor of being guided by Julian was really the trip of a lifetime. My boyfriend and I learned more about permit in 3 days than in the WEEKS of being guided trips for permit we'd gone on over the last few years. Julian, in my opinion, is the best permit guide in the best permit location in the world. He has 30+ years of experience and is the most driven saltwater guide I've ever met. He will get you up at 4:30AM if the tides warrant it, drive you out of the flats and wait there for the sun to rise to make spotting the fish possible. He works extremely hard to give you shots at fish which is all any angler can ask for. He's a guide, not god, so if your casting abilities are in doubt, I would not attempt fishing for permit.
The food at Whipray is top notch. Beverly is a gracious and wonderful host and makes fabulous food. The food is very American friendly (Beverly is from the US) and very fresh. There was also plenty of ice and cold beer!
The lodging is what you would expect at a remote private island. Comfortable beds, saltwater flush toilets, rainwater supplied shower/sink and a view that's unbeatable. Electricity is by generator power, so its limited to the evenings.
I'll definitely go back to Whipray. It was an amazing experience.
