I have a feeling that if we'd been able to stay at Harry's that we'd have thoroughly enjoyed it.
Alas... We did not.
We showed up, fresh off 2 airplanes and a taxi, on Christmas evening to Harry's Cabanas to find a small party going on - yay!, right? Wrong. As we walked up and announced our arrival it was like someone stopped the record player. Things got quiet and Harry reluctantly stood up and said, "Uh. It seems we have a problem..."
He walked us away from the party and immediately pawned us off on his girlfriend, Fern. Fern proceeded to explain that EVEN THOUGH we had booked 3 weeks in advance, already paid for 2 of our 4 nights, AND sent a confirmation email the day prior - they had no cabana for us. Turns out that the current inhabitants of our cabana had asked to extend their stay and Harry had said, "Sure." So when they later realized their mistake they neither kicked those inhabitants out nor contacted us. Instead, they waited for us to arrive and Harry took 30 seconds away from his party to say "We made a mistake. We found you another cabana elsewhere though," and then gave us over to his girlfriend to iron out the details. Luckily she was willing to help us. After recommending another cabana in the center of town (more expensive, more noisy), or an impersonal hotel next door (so so noisy AND double the price), we LUCKED OUT and were recommended (by a stranger) another quiet cabana where we ended up staying all 4 nights. It was slightly more expensive as well, but what can you do? Fern drove us there, refunded our 2 night deposit, and even offered us each a beer. Thank goodness for her.
So - Harry, please sort out your booking and try to be a bit more empathetic next time you kick a paid customer to the curb on Christmas evening.
