“Expected the best but Mother Nature had other plans...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

We went as a group of 12 for one of my best friends wedding but only got to stay one night before we had to be evacuated because a hurricane was headed straight for us! The staff was amazing before and during the chaos. They safely got us all on a plane out of there and bused us to the mountains to their sister property. It was beautiful there as well, just not the beachy vacation I packed for! None the less the staff to great care of us and made the best of the situation. The food and drinks were yummy and couldnt ask for a more exciting trip. Cant wait to make another trip to visit the beach without having to run from a hurricane!

“Enjoyable Stay”

We recently returned from Belize and enjoyed our stay at the Turtle Inn. Our cabana was beach front and spacious. Mini Bar was well stocked, nice little free snacks too. Coffee/Tea Service was nice. My only critique on the room was the bed was too small for our taste and we fell behind on our sleep a bit. We made that choice of bed so it is really not a knock on the resort. We ate twice at the grill, which we both felt was one of our better meals in Belize. We also at Aunty Luba's, which was good as well. Overall the staff was exceptional and never hesitated to take care of our needs. There were plenty of activities to do off resort and on resort. The beach was very well maintained but snorkeling was not too good right off shore. Plenty of off resort option for snorkeling. The resort is designed well really gave nice small community feel. If you decide to go off resort to fish ask for Edworth as a guide!

“Fab design horrid food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

The design of this place is fabulous. The cabanas are huge and beautiful. Our one was right on the beach with two double bedrooms, each with a private garden with an outdoor shower and an indoor bathroom. We also had a sitting room with sofa, dining table, fridge, coffee machine, iPod docking station, it was like a small house and beautifully decorated with amazing high ceilings and ikats on the wall. As the bedroom was huge we couldn't understand why it didn't have a king sized bed, instead it had queen sized and we would have slept better in a larger bed. Our only other gripe was the food, expensive and not very good. At times it bordered on the nasty and took forever to arrive. We later discovered that they had lost their chef so until they get a new chef I recommend staying at Turtle Inn but eating out. Eating in Placencia itself is not only far more atmospheric but also better food and cheaper. Turtle Inn run a bus into town every half hour in the evenings and during the day you can borrow their bicycles. The Hotel offer various trips, snorkelling etc but you get to go with up to 12 other people. If you go into Placencia and use a local agent you can get a private trip for the same price. Stay here for the sheer beauty of the place, the beach and wonderful beach bar but eat out.

Room Tip: Definately worth paying slightly more for the sea view cabanas which are right on the beach, the one...

“Spectacular!”

We enjoyed a lovely villa facing the beach and could not have been happier. The outdoor shower was lovely. The service was incredible in every respect. We had plenty to do when we felt like it (snokling, diving, kayaking and biking in to town) and a comfortable beach chair when we just wanted to relax. It was convenient to have several dining options on property as well as recommendations and reservations for restaurants in town.

Room Tip: If you enjoy the sound of the ocean, the villas on the beach are excellent

“Blissful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

Four nights is just perfect here. It is so relaxing and beautiful. The staff is wonderful especially, Carlos who stood on the beach with a towel as you exited the water. Be sure to try the coconut mojitos especially, after 4 pm when they are half price. Ask for the hibiscus flower and bamboo straw.

The Belizian restaurant is yummy as is the grill on the beach. The lobster is tender and moist and not to be missed. Be sure to have the lobster/shrimp omelet in the morning. The main restaurant is italian which I just don't understand. I know the owner is italian but the hotel is in central america so I wanted more Belizian food...(The same with the gift shop. Most of the items for sale were from Indonesia. Why not support local people?)

The rooms are really lovely but could use a bit more light. Loved the outdoor shower. I had a garden view which was more private but if a beach view is available, I would sacrifice the privacy for the beautiful view and easy access to the beach.

A really terrific stay.

Room Tip: I would highly, recommend a room on the beach.
