Just ask Bill. He knows the neighborhood and the neighbors. Need to rent a vehicle? Check with Bill. Want to go to the outer reef? Check with Bill. Need the refrigerator stocked when you get there? Need a delicious home cooked meal the first night you get there? Check with Bill. During our stay in May 2011, Bill wandered by every day. Not intrusive, just walking down to the beach and available if we wanted to holler out. Anything we decided to do, we would just tell Bill. His reply? "I'm on it." And in every case Bill knew the local service providers, their costs, and matched them to our desires. Prior to our arrival, we dealt with Bill's wife Adrianne who helped with all our pre-trip arrangements including booking our flight from Belize City to Placencia. Once we got there, Bill met us at the airport and became our primary contact - a division of labor that plays on their individual strengths. The house was great - I don't think we ever had to ask for anything on that score. It was a beautiful place with louvered windows and wide overhanging eaves on all sides. Breezes from any direction keep the place cool and comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked with routine amenities such as salt & pepper, mustard, jams, etc, not to mention the local Marie Sharps Hot Sauce. And the complimentary bag of Belizan grown coffee was unexpectedly good - that from folks who bring our own beans and grinder with us. They also stocked the local rum on our request. There are two grocery stores and a restaurant/bar in walking distance. One is a well stocked grocery, the other more a quick stop with an upstairs restaurant - but better supplied than American quick stops. 20 yards from our cottage was a private thatched palapa with chairs about another 2-3 yards from the sea. What a great place for morning coffee (with sunrise) and evening rum. Bill will join you with a Belikan beer if you like and is sensitive enough to retreat if you prefer privacy. Privacy was never a problem - besides Bill and his wife, they have one other cottage and no other neighbors. During our stay we enjoyed sitting by the sea and watching the water, sky, birds, and the occasional passerby. If we had not needed any adventure, we could have stayed there all week and never wanted for anything. But we had to take a couple of snorkel trips out to the outer reef. Bill made the arrangements and had the dive shops pick us up. In both cases a guide went in the water with us and guided us around the reef pointing out things we wouldn't have noticed. And we wanted to rent a car one day - Bill had Candy Power pick us up - so that we could spend a day exploring up around St. Herman's Cave and the Blue Hole - refreshingly cold swimming with the locals spending a weekend "day at the park." When we wanted a bike for a quick run to the store - Bill had it (no charge). When we wanted to kayak out to False Key, Bill has everything. All in all - we've spend 20 years booking rental houses from the Bahamas to Bonaire; and Barnacle Bill's Beach Bungalows rates among the best accommodations ever. Bill himself is one of the greatest amenities. A combination proprietor and local travel agent at no extra charge! Would we go again? Absolutely! We would go just to while away the days at Bill's.
